HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks _ Recreation Advisory Board - 02 Sep 2021 - Minutes - Pdf MINUTES Parks & Recreation Advisory Board 5:30 PM - Thursday, September 2, 2021 Remote Meeting CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:38 pm, by Jason Ruud, Chairperson ROLL CALL Board Members Present: Nolvia Salinas, Julie Campos, Edgar Delgado, Jason Ruud, Kate Bonderman Board Members Absent: Bradyn Leyde, Tom Davenport, and David Milne (City Council Rep.). City Staff Present: Dan Dotta, Brent Kubalek, Zach Ratkai. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of August 5th meeting minutes was postponed until next board meeting due to changes needed. COUNCIL REP & BOARDMEMBER REPORTS Nolvia - Reported that she saw a lot of run-off water at Palomino Park site. Brent reported that there will be a walk through with contractor on Friday to look and discuss any issues. STAFF REPORTS Recreation Report attached at end of minutes. Parks & Facilities Report attached at end of minutes. A&CS Director • Shout out to Julie for being named one of the top 10 Young Professionals for 2021. Page 1 of 12 • Looking at future staffing for maintaining Parks. NEW BUSINESS Resignation of Tom Davenport • On Wednesday Tom gave his resignation from the Park Board as a change in job duties has resulted in his no longer being able to attend the meetings. Highland Park Update • Reported that we were approved for a grant to help pay for the new restroom/concession building at Highland Park and the city was in the process of signing the grant agreement. PROS Plan Community Outreach • Reported that we are about to enter the community outreach portion of the PROS Plan update and that the community survey should be finalized soon. Asked board members to be ready to share the survey through their networks and be ready to help at some community outreach events, such as the Arbor Day event at Palomino Park. Arbor Day Tree Planting • Reported that the Arbor Day event, the tree planting at Palomino Park would be coming up in October and that we would like Park Board presence and participation at the event. Dan Dotta, will be sharing the specific date of the event this week and it will b e sent to the board. • A postcard notification of the event date and time will be sent to all members of the Chapel Hill neighborhood to give some detail about the event and invite them to participate. MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSION Next Meeting: October 7, 2021 • The October meeting is still planned to be the all area meeting and to take place at Osprey Pointe. • Need to finalize a caterer and send out invitations over the next week. Board members to send caterer suggestions to Zach. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:24 pm. PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 7th DAY OF October, 2021 Page 2 of 12 Park Board Meeting Meeting Subject: Park Board Meeting Meeting Date: 9/2/2021 5:30 PM Location: Teams Online Meeting RECREATION HIGHLIGHTS Events: Music & Movies in the Park - o August 13 - Postponed due to Smoke and Heat, will be held September 10; o August 27 Event featured a Local Mic Night, A Vaccine Clinic and the movie Raya & the Last Dragon Family Fun & Safety Night & Free Family Swim - Postponed from August 3 to August 30 - Still went well and was a last day of summer break event. 502 people attended the pool. Doggie Paddle - was held last night September 1st and officially marked the end of the pool season. GeoCoin Challenge Event - takes place this Saturday, Sept. 4 and is a hybrid event with none of the regular large gatherings. Lampson Cable Bridge Run - Registration is open; currently 138 people registered. Programs: Held a successful end of summer 2-day soccer clinic (Partnered with 3 Rivers Soccer Club). We had a total of 62 kids participate. Youth XC League - building on the success of the March league we are offering a 6 week league starting next week. Adult Kickball League - partnering with Kennewick and Richland to offer an adult kickball league Adult Flag Football League - Moving forward with the adult flag football league to start second week of September. Other: Pasco High School Swim teams using the pool, but besides that closing things up for the winter. Clean & Sober Softball Tournament happening this weekend. Had some staff come down with COVID Palomino Park - Grass is growing looking more like a park, Community tree planting in the fall.
