a. Park Maintenance Highlights
Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
• Staff attended 811 training in Kennewick
Park & Facility Projects
• Completed program with the PSD for student interns
• Irrigation at Chiawana Park making progress, digging Nov 11th
• Pool shutting down next week
• 1St Ave Center project moving forward
• Bus/Train Depot project starting next week
• Move two trees at Volunteer Park for Winter Fest
• Brought in tables and swings for season
• Winterized restrooms for season
• Collected data for our internal use and external needs at Chiawana, Big
Cross, Wade, Rd 36 and Rd 48 Parks
• Started pruning process
• Split wood at Shop
• Low frequency inspections
• Wrapping up field spraying for football and soccer
• Landscaped the Post Office Building
Cemetery
• 10 Funerals: 5 burials, 5 cremains
• $23,146.14 in business for the month
• Winterized irrigation system
• Leaf cleanup
• Designed sightscreen for Urn Garden and Nursery yard
Special Events
• Kiwanis One Day event (donations and clubs)
• Scout assisted with painting field markers for State Cross Country Race this
weekend for Eagle Scout Project
• Worked with Corps and Franklin County Noxious Weed Board to organize
spraying efforts
a. Recreation
Past Month Highlights
• PSD Use of Pool just ended
• Adult Flag Football regular season ended, playoffs have begun
• Youth Volleyball clinic started on October 13 and wraps up on Nov 10 - 49
Registered - most ever
• Heritage Days at Sacagewea State Park was Sept 28-29. Manned a booth
and gave out a lot of information
• Daddy-Daughter Dance cancelled due to low enrollment - Have spoke with
staff and assigned them to analyze the event and come back with a new
proposal - showing changes or cancellation
• 5K Training program began on Oct 20 - We have 23 Registered - most ever
• Parking Lot Expansion Done - worked with PW to get it done in time for The
BullDog Invite XC Meet. Definitely helped with parking congestion
• Rootbeerball Tourmament did not go looking at doing something in the
spring with more lead time.
Upcoming Highlights
• Working with School District and Sun Willows to host the State XC
Championships this weekend. The event brings in about 5000 people from
out of town each year with nearly $1,000,000 of economic impact
• Youth Basketball Early-bird Registration just ended (288 vs 287 last year)
ended last year with 474
• Registration for Lampson CBR going strong - 320 vs 69 last year at this time.
Got brass road markers to permanently mark the key points on the course.
• Drop-in pickleball has begun at City Hall. M,T,H,F 11:30am - added F 7:30pm
and Sat 3:00pm starts this weekend.
• Winter Fest Preparations in full swing - Started Food Drive Competition
today - Are challenging Lourdes this year. Goal is to collect 10 lbs per
employee.
• Refinishing Gym Floors Nov 17-26
• Wrestling Clinic - Partnership with Pasco School Wrestling - will start on Nov
13
• LevittAmp Pasco - Voting going on now.
b. Senior Services Highlights
• Received a $1,000 surprise check from STCU to support senior services
• Hosted and Staff attended a WCIA Senior Center Risk Management Course -
12 from Eastern Washington Attended
IV. Other
a. Upcoming Board Member Volunteer Opportunities
• Winter Fest – need help with set up and helping to man the recreation
booth
• Lampson Cable Bridge Run – Need help with set-up and clean-up
o Brent will email out a sign-up sheet.
b. Director Updates
• Zach gave a budget update – proposed budget going to council
• Zach explained the Ad Valorum tax that the Council is considering
and how it may help with funding for a future community center.
• Zach explained that we will be conducting a Community Center needs
assessment next year to help determine the best location and design.
V. City Council Representative Suggestions & Reports
a. No Council Rep Present
VI. Park Board Member Round Table
a. Edgar Delgado –
• Asked if we have a Senior Center. It was explained that we have the 1st
Avenue Center and that many senior programs take place there.
• Commented that he had seen what looked like a firepit in the SE tringle
area of Highland Park.
b. Thomas Davenport –
• Commented that we need to fix the communication with the board
members giving them better notification of the monthly meeting. Brent
said that he has fixed his reminder in outlook but that he also will send out
meeting invites.
c. Arthur Job –
• Since there are two vacant seats on the board, Arthur suggested that we
look at filling those positions and maybe looking into the possibility of
appointing an alternate who would automatically step in if a spot were
vacated.
