Rep) Dave Milne X Nolvia Salinas I. Call to order Time: 5:37 pm II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes Approving: November Motion: Jason Ruud Second: Edmon Daniels III. Staff Reports a. Senior Center Highlights • Sidewalk up to the back door is completed b. Recreation Highlights • 1st Pasco Winterfest went well, had approximately 1000 in attendance, 16 vendors, 3 food vendors, 4 choirs sang • Lampson Cable Bridge Run also went well, 1550 registered for the event. o Preparing for 40th anniversary event in 2018 o Sewing group making give-a-ways out of old program shirts. o Looking at offering a Fun Run option for the 1-mile. • Second half of Adult Basketball season is starting • Youth Basketball League is going on now, with approximately 480 participants. • Mom’s & Son’s Night coming up on February 16. – Again partnering with the CBC softball and baseball teams as volunteers at the event • Getting ready to move into new rooms in city hall • Looking to start additional social media outreach c. Park Maintenance Highlights i. Personnel Activity ii. Park & Facility Projects iii. Cemetery iv. Special Events IV. Other a. Rd 48 Land Purchase – Finalized the purchase of the Rd 48 property on approximately December, 21. Have started scheduling the playing fields located there. b. Comments from visiting community member Camile Little: i. Gave thank you to Councilman Milne for listening to the community members at the last city council meeting and for taking the time to go and talk to city residents that live near Chiawana Park. ii. Said thank you for getting the no parking signs up near Chiawana Park so quickly iii. Said thank you for creating a police mini station out at Chiawana Park iv. Expressed her concerns with leaving the east end gate to Chiawana Park open at nights and with the idea of opening the west end gate. 1. Park Board Members were asked if they had any additional thoughts on Mrs. Little’s comments a. Nolvia – Important to continue to communicate to the citizens to call the police when they witness suspicious behavior. b. Arthur – No comments c. Jason – No comments d. Edmon – Said it is important to look into citizens concerns e. Robert – Good to look into ways to other ways to help prevent unwanted behavior in parks such as lighting, etc. V. Council Member Suggestions & Report a. Nolvia – i. Commented that she enjoyed helping with the Cable Bridge Run and asked when the next opportunity was scheduled 1. Told that the next event was the Mom’s & Son’s Night on Feb 16 ii. Asked about green space b. Edmon – i. Shared with the board that this meeting was his last. That his term is up and that he was not reapplying. He expressed his thanks to everyone and shared that he has always enjoyed being a part of Parks and Recreation in Pasco. 1. Board Members thanked him for his many years of service. c. Arthur – i. Shared some Tree Owner’s Manuals with the board that were from the Forestry Council. d. Jason – i. Asked if the new Public Works Director had been selected 1. Dan gave an update on where they were in the hiring process ii. Asked what the extent of the bad things going on at Chiawana were that Mrs Little had mentioned. 1. Councilman Milne shared what he had learned 2. Dan explained what the police had reported as far as number of calls recieved, etc. e. Robert – i. Gave a handout to the board that explained what a Vision statement is and asked that the board think about what the Park Board’s vision statement should be. He gave them the assignment to come to the next meeting with their thoughts and ideas. ii. Suggested to the city council that, when interviewing new potential Park Board members they should ask about community engagement. f. Council Rep David Milne i. Asked about bike paths in the future development area west of Broadmor. 1. Dan explained that he is working on that right now and on improving communication during planning stages to help integrate paths into the plans. 2. Suggested to the Park Board that when naming future parks they consider naming one after Mayor Watkins. VI. Meeting Adjourned Time: 6:51 pm
