Call to order Time: 5:32 pm II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes Approving: 5/3/2018 Motion to approve with correction of Attendance – Kate Bonderman was not at the May meeting: Edgar Delgado Second: Jenny Rieke Approval Vote: Unanimous III. Staff Reports a. Senior Center Highlights • Approximately 110 footcare appointments in May • Meals on Wheels – Marcie, supervisor of Meals on Wheels has retired, staff met the new supervisor. b. Recreation Highlights • Volunteer Reception went well and was well attended • Soccer season is under way with the Road 36 Complex and the new Road 48 facility in use. • Lampson International has again agreed to help support us for the 40th running of the Cable Bridge Run • Contra Dance Set to take place May 18 at Memorial Park • 3rrr will be holding the annual Fiasco in Pasco at Big Cross on May 19 • Ultimate Frisbee Started - 6 Teams • Youth and Adult Softball starting - Adult SB combined with Kennewick to create true divisions • Planning for Grand Old 4th - Have two good leads for Fireworks sponsor • Pool up and running, Lifeguard Training going on now, • Season Passes on Sale now $8100 vs $3900 • Memorial Weekend at the pool saw attendance of 186, 373, & 553 paid entries plus season pass holders. • Weekend events – Cinco de Mayo and All of Us May 5 & 6 • Submitted 4 Grants to the state - Trails, 2 phases of Sports Complex and 48 Park • Sundown in Tri-Town – Summer Concert Series starting July 11. Partnership event with the DPDA will have Farmers Market, Food Vendors, Beer Garden, Craft Vendors and a Fun Zone besides the music. • An eagle scout has approached us about doing his eagle scout project at Big Cross, Spreading chips and clearing the Disc Golf course. c. Park Maintenance Highlights i. Personnel Activity ii. Park & Facility Projects Pool opening at memorial, pool controller issues and resolution, splash pads online, park rangers on board for the season iii. Cemetery Memorial day event, successful, roughly $30k in sales iv. Special Events FD maintenance, PD community room, landscape strip take overs, developer concerns, squirrel relocation IV. Upcoming Involvement Opportunities a. Grand Old 4th of July Celebration – Edgar Delgado set to help at Car Show b. Sundown in Tri-Town (Concerts) i. David Milne said he is available after 6:30pm ii. Heather said she is available for any of the July 11 – August 8 concerts iii. Edgar Delgado is available for the August 29 concert iv. Other Board Members are to check their calendars to see where they would be able to help. c. Contra Dance and Drum Corps Performance, June 22 – All board members invited to attend. V. Other a. Chapel Hill park design – Waiting on Director decision regarding consultant. Consultant pricing came in six times the budget. b. Grants Update – submitted 4 grants, went through technical review presentations for three of the grants. Now working on making updates to the grants and presentation for final submittal. i. Jenny – shared that she is a resource, if needed, for grant writing and presentations as this is what she does for her work. c. All Area Park Board Mtg – Will be held on September 27, 2018. Brent will send out the save the date. i. Arthur – Asked that we share more details in the presentation about process needed to achieve our major accomplishments. d. Xplore Pasco – a smart phone challenge to get people out into the city’s parks, Board members were given their shirts and asked to wear them and tell people about the program. e. Zone changes – Groundsman zone reallocation f. Internship program – on boarding 5-6 interns for summer months g. Chiawana Park Condition update – Broken water main, Army Corps has not given permission to fix. Using above ground pipes and sprinklers to water the park and keep it alive. VI. Council Member Suggestions & Report a. David Milne – Brought photos and asked about the condition of a fence at the West end of Chiawana. i. Jenny suggest cleaning and repair but not replacement. Said she would be willing to help. ii. Parks Dev. to look into weeding, cleaning, and possible repair to the fence. b. Edgar Delgado – Suggested looking into the possibility of installing solar panels on top of shelters. c. Kate Bonderman asked about the Recreation’s Social Media, wondering about low following especially on instagram and twitter. i. Informed that those two platforms only started within the last 2 months d. Jenny Rieke – Asked how the decision was made when determining how to care for the shoreline at Chiawana. i. Troy to look into. VII. Proposal made by to cancel July Meeting as it would be the day after the 4th of July (July 5) – Motion made by Edgar Delgado to cancel, seconded by Heather Watts. Approved unanimously. VIII. Next meeting to take place on August 2nd. Meeting Adjourned Time: 6:41 pm
