a. Recreation Highlights
i. Selected to receive Grant for Afterschool Program
ii. Youth Softball and Tball starting Saturday
iii. Adult Softball Starting Next Week
iv. Volunteer Banquet went well - held at Pasco High
v. Working with Firefighter's Union again this year for the Benefit Fun Run - June
10
vi. Mini Sluggers instructional Tball – Original session full with 32, opened
additional session which already has 12
vii. Cinco de Mayo – Created coupons to help Cable Bridge and Pool Pass sign ups.
Purchased some promotional items Giveaways
viii. ESRI software – many good features including survey capabilities and ability to
create Story Maps.
b. Senior Center Highlights
i. Footcare Program going well
ii. Attendance - wood carvers and billiards is up, cards is down
c. Park Maintenance Highlights
i. Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
ii. Park & Facility Projects
• Prepared site for new play equipment at Chiawana
• Fertilized and aerated Softball Complex
• Planted 27 trees throughout town
• Working on equipment usually done during the winter months
• Applied pre-emergent in the planter beds
• Started the pool for the season
• Painted fields for Lacrosse
• Installed lettering on Fire Admin Building
• Built lift for PD
• Removed furniture for painting of old PD area
• Burn tumbleweeds
iii. Cemetery
• 5 Funerals: 4 burials, 1 cremains
• $20,004.80 in services for the month
• Preparing for Memorial Day
• Planted spring stock
iv. Special Events
• Prepared for the Traveling Wall
• Volunteers re-barked the beds at City Hall (Ephesus Church)
• Contractor repaired seams on Memorial Pool
IV. Other
a. Aquatic Park Committee Update – Jason Ruud Reported: The legislative bill
passed the house and went to committee in the senate but stalled there and was
not introduced to the full senate. It is now on pause as the legislature works on
passing the next budget. The bill can be reintroduced later in the year. The PFD is
now going to focus their efforts on meeting with local representatives.
b. Cinco De Mayo Reminder – Board was reminded of the Cinco De Mayo events
on May 5 and May 6 and was informed that the City would be having a City-wide
booth at the event.
c. City Clerk – The board was informed that a new City Clerk had been hired and
would be starting soon. Once she is on board, Sandy Kenworthly, ACS
Administrative Assistant, who had been filling in as the interim City Clerk, will
move back to her previous duties.
V. Council Member Suggestions & Report
a. Saul Martinez
i. Reiterated Cinco De Mayo
ii. Shared that the council had received complements on how good
downtown is looking and shared a thank you message they had received
referencing the Parks Crews quick response to a complaint that had been
received.
iii. Shared that there was sprinklers off of Burden Blvd. that were spilling into
the street.
VI. Park Board Member Suggestions & Report
a. Roberto Garcia
i. Shared an idea about putting up signs in highly visited areas that had a QR
code that linked to an ESRI Story Map about the cities’ parks.
ii. Shared an idea about providing local day trips for adults and seniors (i.e.
Handford Reach, Walla Walla, etc.)
