Call to order Time: 5:37 pm II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes Approving: February 2, 2017 Motion: Tom Davenport Second: Nolvia Salinas Approval Vote: Unanimous III. Staff Reports a. Recreation Highlights i. Mom’s & Son’s Night – went well with 72 boys and their chaperone in attendance. Up 2 over 2016. Handed out evaluation and feedback was mostly positive. ii. Youth Basketball is going well, many practice cancellations but no game cancellations. Last games are Saturday, March 4. iii. Adult Basketball, after many cancellations is now doing well but still has about 2 ½ weeks left of games. iv. Patricia is starting new preschool aged programs including volleyball and a revamped soccer program, kickin’ it soccer. v. Moving forward with Adult Ultimate Frisbee league. Will be holding a drop-in Ultimate Frisbee day late in March for people to get a feel for the game and meet others to form teams. vi. Youth T-ball and Softball early registration deadline was Feb 28. Numbers are looking good at this point. vii. Prepping for Summer Concert Series. Securing bands and talking with radio stations for advertising support. b. Senior Services Highlights i. Attendance at 1st Ave Center is good. ii. Footcare going well, attendance was down slightly in February due mostly to a shorter month and the snow iii. Have found places for all of the programs from the senior center, even those that were originally planned for the old Police area. The programs are going well. c. Park Maintenance Highlights i. Personnel Activity 1. Attended Monthly Safety Meetings 2. A staff member completed year two of Resource Management School ii. Park & Facility Projects 1. Removed snow 2. Built wall at 1st Ave Center 3. Painted fields for Lacrosse 4. Repaired Little League fence, prepared the fields for tryouts 5. Cleaned out concession stand for new vendor 6. Applies pre-emergent to beds 7. Remodeled office at PW 8. Started working on the Softball Complex 9. Burned tumbleweeds iii. Cemetery 1. 8 Funerals: 6 burials, 2 cremains 2. $23,430.14 in services for the month 3. Removed snow 4. Prepared equipment for the season iv. Special Events 1. Moved PD 2. Prepared for the Wall IV. Other V. Council & Board Member Comments, Suggestions & Report a. Nolvia Salinas – Suggested getting Summer Concert Banners made and to hang them at the park. b. Nolvia Salinas – Reported that the Aquatic Facility Committee that includes Nolvia and Jason Ruud will next be meeting in April. c. Nolvia Salinas – Asked for an update on the Schlagel Park boat launch. Staff reported that we received the ranking of the projects from the State RCO grant office and that we were ranked #19. And reported that if grant funding stays at the same level historical level grant funding would run out at project #15. d. Roberto Garcia – Thanked the City (Dan) for bringing the Vietnam Travelling Wall to Pasco. And reported, as a veteran, he felt it was an honor to have the wall coming to Pasco. e. Jason Ruud – Asked about Lifeguard hiring for Memorial Pool. Hiring Process is underway for Memorial Pool. i. Brent Explained that returning staff deadline for reapplying is mid-March. It is estimated that the minimum wage increase will add about $35,000 in expenses to the pool this year. ii. Season Passes are now on sale for Memorial Pool. Regular admission price is staying the same, season pass prices are reconfigured and are actually slightly cheaper, swim lesson prices have increased. iii. Pool is set to be up and running by May 1 for the Channel Cats to start practicing and that the Lifeguard Training course is set to start on May 15. f. Council Member Saul Martinez Report i. Gave an update on the Legislative bill that would enable the PFD to move forward with the Aquatic Center; reporting that it has passed the house and is now moving to the senate. 1. Brent said he would send out the link that shows the progress of the bill. ii. Reported on the Broadmore/Rd 100 development plan. He is excited about the many recreational opportunities that are in the plan and about the early communication with WSDOT to address the freeway interchange in preparation for future growth. iii. Reported that because of the court ruling resulting in the redistricting of the city, all City Council spots will be up for re-election. iv. Reported that the DPDA has hired a new Farmers Market director v. Reported that the Police Building is done and that the open house was held on February 27. VI. Meeting Adjourned Time: 6:24pm a.
