RESOLUTION NO 2243
A RESOLUTION urging construction of an elementary school in the
East Pasco neighborhood
WHEREAS, the East Pasco neighborhood has been without a public school since
the demolition of Whittier School in 1979, and
WHEREAS, being void of a neighborhood elementary school has deprived the
neighborhood of the traditional foundation for the social network so essential to a -viable
neighborhood, and
WHEREAS, the East Pasco neighborhood has burgeoned with growth over the past
several years, principally fueled by industrial growth experienced in the greater Pasco
area, and
WHEREAS, it would appear that an elementary school in East Pasco would
indirectly help alleviate the critical problem of overcrowding at Pasco High School, as well
as reduce the social and financial costs associated with transporting more than 300
students from East Pasco to other elementary schools throughout the District, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
Section 1 That the Board of Directors of the Pasco School District are hereby
urged to include an East Pasco elementary school in any construction bond measure placed
before the voters of the Pasco School District
Section 2 That the voters of the Pasco School District are hereby encouraged to
approve issuance of bonds by the School District to finance construction of an elementary
school in the East Pasco neighborhood
