RESOLUTION NO. 2188
A RESOLUTION opposing the sale of Federal Power and Marketing
Administrations (PMA's)
WHEREAS, the United States Federal Government is considering the sale of
Federal Power and Marketing Administrations (PMA's), and
77 HEREAS, PMA's provide electricity to approximately 1,100 not-for-profit electric
utilities serving about 57 million people in 34 states, and
WHEREAS, selling the power generation capacity at these federal facilities would
divest our country of national assets that may help pay for those programs that do not
generate consistent revenues, and
WHEREAS, if the PMA's are sold and cost-based rates abandoned, it is estimated
that household and business rates will rise by 30 percent, and
WHEREAS, the sale of the PMA's will severely impact Pasco residents on a fixed
income and residents living at or below the poverty level and hurt the Pasco community's
economy, as well as that of the region, by causing higher costs for wheat, vegetables,
fruit and wine production, NO , THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
To urge our Congressional delegation to oppose efforts to sell the Federal Power
and Marketing Administrations
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Pasco at a regular meeting this 5th day
