A RESOLUTION authorizing application for U. S. Department of Justice
Financial Assistance for the employment of additional Police Officers
WHEREAS, the U S Department of Justice has invited applications for
financial assistance to employ additional Police Officers m cities committed to
the use of the additional officers m a proactive and problem-solving manner,
and
WHEREAS, the Pasco community possesses a crime rate well m excess of
State averages and certain neighborhoods within the community reflect chronic
crime conditions which warrant a comprehensive problem-solving approach which
requiring additional police manpower, and
WHEREAS, an increasing and broad trend of youth violence, including
escalating gang violence, is particularly threatening to the community at-large
and requires a concerted effort through additional resources, and
WHEREAS, the City of Pasco has every intention to retain the officers
employed with a Department of Justice grant beyond the grant period m order to
maintain the positive effects expected to be achieved through the use of the
additional resources dunng the grant period, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
§1. The Pasco City Manager is hereby directed and. authonzed to make
application to the U S Department of Justice for rare (6) additional Police
Officers and is authorized to execute all documents necessary and appropnate to
the filing of such application
