A RESOLUTION endorsing the concept of renovation of the Liberty Theater
WHEREAS, the Liberty Theater is a structure of local histonc
significance and sentiment m the downtown area of the community, and
WHEREAS, the Liberty Theater structure has been vacant for several
years and is in disrepair and could be irreparably damaged and subject to
demolition if not renovated m the near future, and
WHEREAS, the Pasco Downtown Development Association (PDDA) and the
Franldin County Histoncal Society have formed an alliance to pursue the idea of
renovation and use of the Liberty Theater as a commtuuty performing arts
facility, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds the concept of renovation and use of
the Liberty Theater as a performing arts facility a highly desirable objective
which would complement downtown revitalization as well as fulfill local
lustoncal goals,
WHEREAS, the potential renovation and use of the Liberty Theater as a
performing arts facility should be appropnately studied as to the financial
feasibility in terms of the cost of renovation and the income and expenses
associated with its operation and mamtenance as a performmg arts facility,
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
§1. That the City of Pasco endorses the concept of renovating the
Liberty Theater for use as a performing arts facility and will participate m the
effort to defme the feasibility of such a project through the appointment of a
City Council representative to the Theater Renovation Committee
§2. The City Manager is hereby authonzed to provide such staff
assistance to the committee as deemed necessary and appropnate to aid the
conduct of a feasibility study to determine the viability of renovation and
long-term use of the Liberty Theater
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Pasco at a Regular Meeting
this 21st day of December, 1992
