RESOLUTION NO. 1996
A RESOLUTION in protest of the proposed closure of the Interpretive
Center at Sacajawea State Park.
WHEREAS, the Sacajawea State Park is the only State Park in the immediate
area of the Tn-Cities, and
WHEREAS, the Park and its Interpretive Center are deserving memorials to
a sigruficant figure in Washington State history by honoring a native American
for her sacrifice and contribution to the success of the Lewis and Clark
expedition, and
WHEREAS, the closure of the Interpretive Center would materially impair
an important cultural resource at the State Park and abandon the Memorial to the
native American Sacajawea that has provided a constant reminder of her important
role in the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
§1. The Pasco City Council declares its public objection to the proposed
closure of the Interpretive Center at Sacajawea State Park, and
§2. The Pasco City council urges the Washington State Legislature and
the State of Washington Parks Department to find the means to avoid the closure
of the Interpretive Center at Sacajawea State Park, and
§3. The Pasco City Council goes on public record as stating its belief
that the Interpretive Center at Sacajawea State Park is an important local
cultural amenity that deserves a priority in the State Parks budget sufficient to
maintain the facility and keep it open to the public
