HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953 Resolution1 RESOLUTION NO. 1953 A RESOLUTION creating a Heritage City Committee and appointing members thereto for the purposes of planning a Columbia River Bicentennial celebration. WHEREAS, the year 1992 will commemorate the first American and British explorations of the Columbia river; and, WHEREAS, the Columbia River links together forty-four cities and eighteen counties along the Oregon/Washington river corridor which together, share the heritage of the river history and economic benefits of its many resources; and, WHEREAS, the City of Pasco has approved Resolution Nos. 1800 and 1909 declaring Pasco a Columbia River Heritage City and committed to participate in the development of the Columbia River bicentennial celebration; and, WHEREAS, the Columbia River Bicentennial River celebration will require extensive planning and involvement of many people, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO: That a Heritage City Committee is hereby established and shall consist of the following members: Shirley Ray, Ralph Smith, Linda Sue Williams, Karen Miller, Ernie Boston, Lois Siebe, Cynnie Little, Ed Shea, Elsa Rose, Ted Neth, Mary Lee Pence, Marian Meisinger and Walteen Corson. Further, that said Heritage City Committee shall: 1) Develop its own by-laws or other reasonable operating procedures; 2) Inform the citizens of Pasco of the approaching bicentennial celebration and the importance of Pasco's participation in this event; 3) Undertake planning activities for Columbia River Bicentennial celebration; 4) Enhance public awareness of the importance of the Columbia River history, culture, and environmental setting as it relates to Pasco; 5) Raise funds from private sources to carry out celebration activities; 6) Be dissolved by December 31, 1993 unless specifically authorized to continue by the City Council.
