HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950 ResolutionRUBSTELLO, City Attorney ATTEST: zz EVELYN WELLS, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 1950 A RESOLUTION relating to payment for disposal of low-level radioactive waste on the Hanford Reservation. WHEREAS, The State of Washington permits the operation of a low-level radioactive waste landfill on the Hanford Reservation; and WHEREAS, Operation of the low-level radioactive waste landfill produces no tax revenue for local jurisdictions in Benton and Franklin Counties; and WHEREAS, Such a regional facility should provide some measurable level of financial support to the area that may be stigmatized by the location of such facility; and WHEREAS, Economic diversification is a primary goal of all jurisdictions in Benton and Franklin Counties; and WHEREAS, Expansion of the Benton-Franklin Counties Revolving Loan Fund would further economic diversification by making available to qualified entrepreuners and businesses those necessary matching funds to promote start-up and expansion of existing businesses; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE PASCO CITY COUNCIL That Governor Booth Gardner and the Washington State legislature are hereby encouraged to promote an extension of taxes, surcharges or other reasonable fees upon the haulers and/or generators of low-level radioactive waste deposited in the landfill operated at the Hanford Reservation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That any such funds so generated be deposited in the Benton-Franklin Counties Revolving Loan Fund for the purpose of enhancing economic development and diversification of Benton and Franklin Counties. 7 PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED by the Mayor this 4/ day of March, 1991.
