RESOLUTION NO 1900
A RESOLUTION urging continued operation and utilization of the
Fast Flux Test Facility
WHEREAS, the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF ) is the U S Department
of Energy's most modern, most capable multi-purpose reactor, and has a
proven, outstanding track record, and
WHEREAS, the FFTF is the best place suited to manufacture the
power packs to provide the energy systems so vital to the nation's future
in space, and
WHEREAS, any decision by the federal government to tie our nation's
future in space to unreliable, old reactors elsewhere in the country, is to
unnecessarily jeopardize those important space programs, and
WHEREAS, the FFTF provides the nation with the best insurance for
meeting the long-term needs in space, energy research and a host of other
scientific functions, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pasco has recently learned
through its congressional representation that the federal budget proposal
may reduce or eliminate funding for the FFTF, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO
Section 1 That the City Council of the City of Pasco hereby urges
the federal administration to assure continued operation and utilization of
FFTF through the inclusion of sufficient funds in the federal budget
Section 2 That a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded by the
Mayor to President Bush and Energy Secretary Watkins, as well as the City
of Pasco's congressional representation, as soon as possible
