RESOLUTION No. 1841
A RESOLUTION establishing a City/Council policy concerning
the painting of crosswalks.
WHEREAS, upon consideration of limited available City
revenues and the amount of time and cost required to maintain the
painted crosswalks within the City; and
WHEREAS, upon further consideration of the legal
requirements for painted crosswalks and the recommendations of
the Public Works Director that many of the painted
crosswalks within the City are not justified by site conditions,
motor vehicle traffic, or other considerations warranting the use
of painted crosswalks, the City Council has determined to
establish a policy to direct the City Staff to eliminate the
painting of crosswalks where the sidewalk on an arterial street
and side street is immediately adjacent to the curb or where
there is no sidewalk on the streets at all, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Unless the site has specific conditions as
determined by the City Engineer to justify or warrant the
presence of a painted crosswalk , crosswalks shall not be
painted across side streets where they intersect with arterial
streets where the sidewalk on the arterial street and side street
is immediately adjacent to the curb or where there is no sidewalk
on the streets at all.
Section 2. All present crosswalks in the City not
required herein to be painted shall be eliminated by erosion over
time and not be re-painted.
