HomeMy WebLinkAbout1800 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO 1800 A RESOLUTION accepting the invitation of the Oregon Historical Society to support and participate in the planning and development of programs and activities to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Gray's historic first exploration of the Columbia River WHEREAS, the City of Pasco, because of its long historic ties and economic connections with the Columbia River has been declared a COLUMBIA RIVER HERITAGE CITY by the Oregon Historical Society, and WHEREAS, the City of Pasco has been invited by the Society to participate with other HERITAGE CITIES of the Columbia River in the planning and development of programs and activities to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Gray's historic first exploration of the Columbia River, and WHEREAS, this occasion will present the opportunity for the people of Pasco to better understand the common heritage of their shared river history and the importance of the Columbia as the life source of the region, and WHEREAS, the 1992 BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION will provide Pasco the opportunity to portray its unique historic and economic connections with the past and future of the Columbia River, and WHEREAS, this occasion will serve as an important stimulant for tourist and economic development, not only for Pasco, but also for the entire region of the river corridor, and WHEREAS, the BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION will yield a heritage to be enjoyed and treasured in the third century of the Columbia because a primary objective of each HERITAGE CITY's planning is the initiation and development of projects of permanent historical, cultural, and economic value and importance, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO That there shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council of Pasco a HERITAGE CITY COMMITTEE to plan for the Bicentennial Celebration which shall 1) Inform the citizens of Pasco of the approaching Bicentennial Celebration and of the importance of Pasco's participation in this event 2) Invite the citizens of Pasco to assist and work with the appointed committee in planning Pasco's participation in this important celebration , 3) Elect a spokesperson (or persons) to represent Pasco at all such meetings called to coordinate planning of the Bicentennial Program so that it can be presented as a regionally developed program to maximize interest and impact Joe-W Jac son, Mayor Greg A ubstello, City Attorney 4/1 • PA b the City Council of the City of Pasco this / day of , 1987 ATTEST ye1 n ells, City Clerk APPROVED AS TO FORM 2
