HomeMy WebLinkAbout1777 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO 1777 A RESOLUTION of the City of Pasco urging support for the restart of N-Reactor following a full safety review by the National Academy of Sciences WHEREAS, the N-Reactor has been serving the United States in a safe and reliable manner for 24 years, and WHEREAS, placing the N-Reactor in a standby status, as proposed by the Senate Armed Services and Appropriations Committees, will seriously jeopardize the national security of the United States in that the Soviet Union continues to operate 22 weapons grade plutonium producing reactors with seven more such reactors under construction, and WHEREAS, the unilateral abandonment of this safe and reliable dual- purpose production reactor could ultimately displace 20,000 talented, professional men and women who now provide the skilled services that are so necessary to national security, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO Section 1 The City Council of the City of Pasco urges rejection of the proposal by the Senate Armed Services and Appropriations Committees to place the N-Reactor on standby status Section 2 The Council urges support of efforts by Senator Daniel Evans and Congressman Sid Morrison to restart the N-Reactor after a full safety review has been completed by the National Academy of Sciences PASSED by the City Council of the City of Pasco this /t day of May, 1987 ATTEST ` Eve yn We Is, City Clerk APPROVED AS TO FORM Rubstello: City Attorney Greg
