A RESOLUTION of the Pasco City Council expressing
opposition to HB 1037 as it provides for a seven cent
per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax.
RECITALS:
1. Although the available funding for needed improvements to
city streets, state highways and bridges falls far short of
existing needs, and the Association of Washington Cities
endorses passage of HB 1037 as it provides for a seven cent
per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax; and
2. All areas of governmental operation and infrastructure are
similarly impacted by the limited funding provided by
existing tax resources which already are at levels stressing
the general public's ability to pay and tolerance level for
state's taxation; and
3. The Washington State Gasoline Tax is already one of the
highest, if not the highest, state gasoline taxes in the
entire nation; and
4. The Pasco City Council believes that an increase in the state
gasoline tax is inappropriate and not desired by or
acceptable to the citizens of Washington State as the
appropriate means to allocate additional public funds to
transportation projects in Washington State,
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Pasco City Council states as a matter of public record that
it is in opposition to HB 1037 as it provides for a seven
cent per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax.
2. The Pasco City Clerk is directed to send copies of this
Resolution to this area's state legislators and the Chairmen
of the House Transportation Committee, the House Ways and
Means Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee and
to the Governor of the State of Washington.
