HomeMy WebLinkAbout1771 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 1771 A RESOLUTION of the Pasco City Council expressing opposition to HB 1037 as it provides for a seven cent per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax. RECITALS: 1. Although the available funding for needed improvements to city streets, state highways and bridges falls far short of existing needs, and the Association of Washington Cities endorses passage of HB 1037 as it provides for a seven cent per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax; and 2. All areas of governmental operation and infrastructure are similarly impacted by the limited funding provided by existing tax resources which already are at levels stressing the general public's ability to pay and tolerance level for state's taxation; and 3. The Washington State Gasoline Tax is already one of the highest, if not the highest, state gasoline taxes in the entire nation; and 4. The Pasco City Council believes that an increase in the state gasoline tax is inappropriate and not desired by or acceptable to the citizens of Washington State as the appropriate means to allocate additional public funds to transportation projects in Washington State, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: 1. Pasco City Council states as a matter of public record that it is in opposition to HB 1037 as it provides for a seven cent per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax. 2. The Pasco City Clerk is directed to send copies of this Resolution to this area's state legislators and the Chairmen of the House Transportation Committee, the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee and to the Governor of the State of Washington. -1- AT ST: ELLS, City Clerk AP t OVED TO FO STELLO, City Attorney e. $ PASSED this 6 day of Apr11', 1987 and APPROVED by the Mayor.
