A RESOLUTION in Support of the Walla Walla Veterans
Administration Medical Center Remaining Open as a
Full-Service Medical Facility.
WHEREAS, the Veterans Administration is considering a
drastic change of operation for the Walla Walla Medical Center,
which would modify the Medical Center to an outpatient facility
only; and
WHEREAS, the Walla Walla facility service area includes
parts of three states and serves an estimated 74,000 veterans,
including 53,000 in southeastern Washington alone; and
WHEREAS, the Medical Center has an operating budget of $13
million, and employs over 300 people; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the direct impact to the economy
through loss of jobs, the loss of an outstanding local medical
facility to area veterans would be a hardship to southeastern
Washington veterans; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO,
WASHINGTON, that the Veterans Administration and the Veterans
Affairs Committee of the United States Senate and the United
States House of Representatives are urged to give careful
consideration to allowing the Walla Walla Veterans Medical Center
to remain open as a full-service medical facility.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO,
WASHINGTON, this /2 day of February, 1987, and approved by
the Mayor.
