HomeMy WebLinkAbout1746 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 1746 THE RESOLUTION Of the Pasco City Council approving its membership and participation in the Mid-Columbia Consortium of Governments and authorizing the City Manager to act as the City's representative. WHEREAS, On May 28, 1986, the President of the United States selected the Hanford site as one of the potential locations for the Nation's high-level nuclear waste repository; and WHEREAS, The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 mandates that local, state, and federal governments must be involved in the process of implementing that act; and WHEREAS, The local governments near the site are affected as the result of this national policy decision; and WHEREAS, There is a pressing need for pertinent information as to payments equivalent to taxes, as well as the immediate and long-term social-economic impacts at the site, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Pasco City Council, as follows: SECTION ONE. The City of Pasco hereby indicates its willingness and desire to be a full participant in the Mid-Columbia Consortium of Governments and approves the City's membership and participation in the Consortium. The Council further recommends that the Consortium allow other taxing jurisdictions to join and participate. SECTION TWO. The City of Pasco supports such Consortium being formed so as to maximize our effectiveness in dealing with state and federal officials by presenting a unified approach to monitering site characterization and in the presentation of positions reflected of the area as a whole.
