HomeMy WebLinkAbout1731 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 4-7-a1-40adet. r).31 A RESOLUTION in recognition and appreciation of the Greater Pasco Area Chamber of Commerce, the "Blue Bridge Closure Committee," and the contribution of many. WHEREAS, the impending and unavoidable six-month closure of the Blue Bridge for deck repairs has presented the Pasco business community with the substantial possibility of significantly lower sales volume due to the temporary re-routing of a significant volume of traffic around the Pasco community; and WHEREAS, the Greater Pasco Area Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of the need for local action to minimize the adverse effects to be experienced by the Pasco business community, formed the "Blue Bridge Closure Committee" representing a thorough cross-section of the Pasco business community; and WHEREAS, the Chamber's Blue Bridge Closure Committee worked earnestly over the past four months in creating a viable plan of action and promotional campaign; and WHEREAS, the logo, slogan and musical jingles created by the Committee to enhance the advertising program represents a selfless vision and effort to promote the entire Pasco community, as well as all its businesses; and WHEREAS, the tourist information center, created to assure adequate opportunity for travellers to find their way during the Blue Bridge closure, is a product of thousands of dollars of funds, materials and labor donated by individuals and businesses throughout the Pasco community; and WHEREAS, Committee's action plan reflects the commitment and ability of the individuals and businesses involved in the creation of a program sure to benefit the entire Pasco community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO That the following individuals be and hereby are publicly acknowledged in appreciation for their respective roles as active members of the Chamber of Commerce's Blue Bridge Closure Committee and their creation of a thorough and effective promotional campaign for the entire Pasco business community: Alanna Stingley, Chairperson Paul Vick Laurene Mineke Pat Young Leonard Dietrich Larry Shaw PASSED by the City Council of th \Cit f Pasco this 6 day of May, 1986. Sandy's Trophies Tr-Cities Visitor & Convention Bureau Van Patten Lumber BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Pasco City Council hereby expresses its sincere appreciation to the Greater Pasco Area Chamber of Commerce, the members of the Chamber's Blue Bridge Closure Committee, and the individuals and businesses who contributed to the creation of the Tourist Information Center, the combined effects of which are of significant benefit to the entire Pasco Community. P sco City Attorney RESOLUTION NO. 1731 FAILED May 5, 1986 Roll Call Vote of 5 - 2 Number Reassigned A RESOLUTION of the Pasco City Council opposing the reduction of rail passenger service in the State of Washington. WHEREAS, the federal 1986 budget appropriation has been reduced for Amtrak by 10 percent from its 1985 funding level and upon implementation of the Gramm-Rudman Bill an additional 4.3 percent reduction occurred on March 1; and WHEREAS, major budget reductions are anticipated federal 1987 budget due to the Gramm-Rudman Bill; and WHEREAS, Amtrak ridership had been steadily during the past several years; and WHEREAS, rail passenger service is an essential safe, economical, reliable transportation system; and WHEREAS, a balanced system of rail, air and highway transportation is essential for reliable, all weather movement of people and commerce between cities; and WHEREAS, all modes of passenger transportation (air, highway, water and rail) are dependent upon federal financial support for construction, maintenance and operation; and WHEREAS, federal financial support of Amtrak at current levels is essential to maintain present service and to allow further implementation of cost reducing measures, while increasing ridership; and WHEREAS, reduction of the 1986 federal appropriation for Amtrak resulted in reduction of service to Pasco, and has seriously inconvenienced citizens travelling in this corridor; and WHEREAS, reduction in Amtrak service undermines public confidence in and use of rail transportation; and WHEREAS, the Pasco City Council wishes to encourage greater use of and confidence by the public in rail transportation between Pasco and other cities in Washington and throughout the country, in order to gain the benefits of trade, commerce and tourism without the disadvantages of total dependency upon highway or air transportation; NOW, THEREFORE, for the increasing part of a BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Pasco, a municipal corporation of the State of Washington, that the Pasco City Council opposes the service reduction of rail passenger service in Washington; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Pasco City Council opposes any further reduction of Federal appropriations for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, Amtrak.
