HomeMy WebLinkAbout1674 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 1674 A Resolution stating the City Council's opposition to Grant County's proposed siting of a hazardous and/or dangerous waste disposal facility in Grant County. WHEREAS, Grant County has proposed the development of a hazardous and/or dangerous waste disposal facility in Grant County which will be located approximately 2,500 feet from the Columbia River; and WHEREAS, the location of the hazardous and/or dangerous waste disposal facility presents the risk of the seepage or drainage into the Columbia River of extremely toxic, hazardous and dangerous waste; and WHEREAS, such seepage or drainage should it occur, could have such drastic consequences of an irreversable nature to both life and property downstream from the proposed waste disposal facility, that the risk imposed, no matter how small, can not be allowed to exist, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the City Council of the City of Pasco, Washington opposes the currently proposed location of a hazardous and/or dangerous waste disposal facility in Grant County because of the risks that it imposes to the quality of the waters of the Columbia River and to the life and property of all persons downstream of the proposed site. 2. A copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to the Director of the Washington State Department of Ecology, the Board of Commissioners for Grant County and the Grant County Public Involvement Committee. 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately.
