HomeMy WebLinkAbout1615 ResolutionLi/ • o, City Attorney APP Greg A AS TO RESOLUTION NO 1615 A RESOLUTION urging the Consolidation Committee to go public in the soonest possible time to inform the public about all aspects of consolidation WHEREAS, a Consolidation Committee of anonymous Tr-City citizens interested in having a single consolidated city government in the Tr- Cities has come together, and WHEREAS, the interest of this committee, although laudable, has created a concern to the City Council of Pasco and to the citizens it serves because of the "sub rosa" manner by which the committee's work is being done, and WHEREAS, no one at this juncture knows who is serving on this self- appointed committee, thus depriving the citizens of Pasco the opportunity to become enlightened and fully informed about the full measure of all the ramifications that consolidation, in whatever form, will create,- and WHEREAS, an atmosphere of full and free inquiry is the essence of the democratic process and this process, for better or for worse, has shaped the course of events in our nation and in our city, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO DO RESOLVE, AS FOLLOWS Section 1 That the Consolidation Committee yield to public opinion and the desire of this Council and, in the soonest possible time and certainly before petitions are circulated, submit to the public a full accounting of the particular model of consolidation being proposed, and that the committee tell the public candidly and openly about the organizational efficiencies that consolidation would or could not achieve Section 2 That the Consolidation Committee be encouraged not to rush the consolidation issue to a vote on May 15, 1984, as has been publicly stated, because the complexity of consolidation will require a longer period of time to get all of the issues sorted out and appropriately aired before the public Section 3 That the Consolidation Committee go to the public in the soonest possible time and tell the public about the organizational structure of the consolidation proposal being developed, about the boundaries of the area to be included within the proposed consolidation, about the method and scope of representation to be afforded Pasco in the proposed consolidated city, about the problems that consolidation will solve, about the problems that consolidation is likely to create, and to develop and disseminate statistical comparisons of cost before and after consolidation PASSED by the City Council of the City of Pasco this 16 day of January , 1984
