HomeMy WebLinkAbout2464 OrdinanceATTE a E. ORDINANCE NO. 2464 AN ORDINANCE imposing a penalty fee for checks returned for insufficient funds. WHEREAS, the return of bank checks to the finance depart- ment for insufficient funds is a continuing problem that causes the expenditure of employee time and city funds to correct, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section One. Any person, corporation, business, partner- ship or other entity or association, issuing a bank check or draft to the City of Pasco, or any of its departments, shall be assessed by the city finance department a penalty fee of ten dollars ($10.00), if the bank check or draft is returned to the city by a bank because of insufficient funds in the account of the payor or because the account of the payor is closed. Section Two. The city finance department and any other city department is authorized not to accept the bank check or draft of a person, corporation, business, partnership, or other entity or association assessed the above penalty fee until the penalty fee has been paid along with the amount of the underlying bank check or draft by cash, cashier's check or money order. Section Three. Notice of the penalty fee imposed by Section One of this ordinance and the authority imposed by Section Two of this ordinance shall be posted in the city finance department at a place or places that is open to the view of the general public at city hall. Section Four. This ordinance shall take effect five (5) days after passage and publication according to law.
