Butterfield Intake Pump No. 9 Condition Assessment
Amendment No.1
October 2016
Background
The City of Pasco's (City) existing raw water intake for the Butterfield Water Treatment Plant
(WTP), located on the Columbia River near the Cable Bridge, is equipped with four vertical turbine
pumps (identified as Pump Nos. 6 through 9) that pump raw surface water to the WTP for
treatment. RH2 Engineering, Inc., (RH2) assessed the condition of Pump No. 9 in February 2016.
During field data collection for Pump No. 9, RH2 also collected data for Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8.
The City contacted RH2 on September 27, 2016, and requested that RH2 analyze the data collected
for Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8 to assess the current condition of these pumps and motors. This Scope of
Work includes the tasks necessary for RH2 to evaluate the condition of Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8, and
to document those results.
Task 1— Pump and Motor Condition Assessment — Three Remaining
Butterfield Pumps
Objective: Assess the condition of the pumps and motors for Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8 at the City's
Butterfield Intake facility.
Approach:
1.1 Import and review the data collected in February 2016 for Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8 to conduct a
frequency vibration analysis and wire -to -water efficiency, develop a pump curve, and calculate
the total dynamic head required for each pump at its design pumping rate.
1.2 Input field data into spreadsheets. Develop pump and wire -to -water efficiency curves for
Pump Nos. 6, 7, and 8.
1.3 Compare the field-tested pump and wire -to -water efficiency curve data with the published
curve data provided by the manufacturer.
1.4 Based on the results of the frequency vibration analysis, evaluate the following:
• Status of motor conditions, including rotors, static/dynamic eccentricities,
connection faults, and load -related problems, etc; and
• Motor/pump bearing problems.
RH2 Deliverables: A letter report signed and stamped by licensed professional engineers
presenting the results of the existing condition and pumping characteristics of the Butterfield Intake
Facility pumps (Pump Nos. 6, 7, 8, and 9). One (1) PDF copy of the letter report.
