Call to order Time: 5:30 pm a. Introduction of New Board Members: Dave Milne & Reade Obern i. Rick gave instructions to Dave and Reed that they will need to view the Public Records Act Video. II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes Approving: April 19, 2016 a. Robert recommended amending the minutes as follows: i. Change the word “reading” to “reviewing” under his suggestion recorded in section IV and add that he suggested new board members take a tour of the parks. ii. Add a section “d” under section III.a.i.1. that mentioned the board discussed the cost to benefit of indoor vs. outdoor aquatics and that the Park Board thought it important that we design the aquatic facility in such a way that would keep the facility as close to the black as possible. Hired New Program Specialist - Will start on June 13. iii. Pool Getting ready to open - Channel Cats Swim Meet this Weekend iv. Adult Softball is going v. Shelter Rentals Online vi. Pool Pass Purchase online vii. Facebook ‘Likes’ up to nearly 800 viii. Booth at “Old Fashioned Day in the Park” at Sacajawea State Park this Weekend ix. Weekend of June 11: Pasco Firefighter's Fun Run for ARC, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament & SB Tournament, Training for New Swim Lesson Program b. Senior Center Highlights i. Footcare Program going well. We were up 36 appointments at end of first quarter over 2015 and donations were also slightly up. c. Park Maintenance Highlights i. Personnel Activity 1. Attended Monthly Safety Meetings ii. Park & Facility Projects 1. Boom Truck is back 2. Fire blight in many of our ornamental trees 3. Opened the splash pads (Kurtzman needed a new controller) 4. Myrtha Pool repaired seams to the pool 5. Painted hallways in City Hall 6. Replaced slide at Desert Dunes 7. Removed old bleachers and fencing at Highland Park 8. Painted fields for Bugle Band practice 9. Installed “pour in place” under new exercise equipment 10. Issues with water at Chiawana Park 11. Issues with sand in irrigation system on west side of town 12. Issue with power and vandals on landscape strip 13. Installed new conduit at Chiawana for fiber to mini station 14. Burn tumbleweeds iii. Cemetery 1. 7 Funerals: 4 burials, 3 cremains 2. $21,598.77 in services for the month 3. Held Memorial Day event 4. Planted flower stock 5. 80 volunteers from the LDS church helped to spruce up the cemetery 6. New search app for customers 7. New IPad for staff iv. Special Events 1. Lourdes, Kiwanis Division 54 and the City of Pasco installed the exercise equipment at Volunteer Park 2. Assisted Food Truck Friday 3. Assisted DPDA with Cinco De Mayo 4. Car accident on Sandifur wrecked tree ($1500) 5. Repaired cracks on bike path from Road 54 to 72 6. 10 trees removed by contractor downtown IV. Other a. Naming of Park at Tierra Vida development i. Rick explained about Park Impact Fees and how Tierra Vida funded the park in lieu of paying park impact fees. He noted the name “Tierra Vida Park” was requested by the residents of the Tierra Vida development. ii. Motion to name the park “Tierra Vida Park” was made by Arthur Job and seconded by Jason Ruud. The vote was unanimous. b. Park, Recreation & Forestry Plan Update i. Rick explained that the consultant will be here for the next park board meeting to meet with the Park Board and gather input. V. Council Member Suggestions & Report a. Robert – i. Suggested posting lots of pictures on facebook from programs and events, because people love to see their pictures and share with friends. ii. Suggested looking at posting “have you seen” type posts, as the police do, to help catch vandals in Parks. iii. Suggested posting news of what we are doing in Parks to conserve resources, like the updated irrigation system. b. Reade – i. Asked if we have talked with the Corps of Engineers about updating the Chiawana Irrigation system or tapping into the Franklin Irrigation System. Dan responded that he had not. c. Dave – i. Asked about portable toilets being placed at schools. It was explained that the City puts portable toilets at most of their parks but it is up to the school to place them at their schools. d. Jason – i. Complimented the department for putting swings at the new park at Rd. 60 and Three Rivers. He likes to see swings in parks, at a time when many places are removing them. e. Saul – i. Commented that he is glad to see tree work being done throughout the city at the Golf Course, Downtown and elsewhere. VI. Meeting Adjourned Time: 6:24 pm
