Call to order Time: 5:37 pm II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes Approving: August 6, 2015 Motion: Jason Ruud Second: Molly Hark er Approval Vote: Unanimous III. Staff Reports a. Recreation Highlights • New Program Guide - Explain thought for Next Guide to have Spanish cover the full back side and to send a Post Card instead of the Guide itself. • Pool • Doggie Paddle – up from 21 dogs in 2014 to 26 dogs in 2015 • Open Swim Attendance – up from 20,608 in 2014 to 24,082 in 2015 • Season Passes - 1176 admissions over course of the summer = $4.06 per admission • Color Dash - Went Okay - Thank you to board members that volunteered - 141 in attendance - Neon Vibe, Parade, Smoke, and other events proved to be too much competition on the day of the event to get better numbers. • Tons of Trucks - With Fiery Farmers Market (8:00am-Noon) on Saturday, September 12, 2015 • Sweetest Daddy-Daughter Prom - October 10 (Either at Chiawana High or Senior Center) • Many Programs Starting up in September including • Toddler Short Sports • Adult Flag Football (Has 32 teams with 4 on waitlist) up from 29 teams in 2014 and 25 in 2013 • Adult Recreational & Competitive Volleyball b. Senior Center Highlights • Footcare – still going well this year • Relocation – running into roadblocks with options c. Park Maintenance Highlights • Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Hired a new Groundsman I • Park & Facility Projects • Removed playgrounds at Volunteer and Kurtzman • Striped fields for soccer, adult flag football and youth football • Installed a new door at Volunteer Park building • Painted Head Start Classrooms at MLK • Sprayed herbicide in most of the parks • Cemetery • Funerals = 8 (4 burials and 4 cremains) • 6 Pre-needs • Sprayed growth regulator • Special Events • Assisted with Food Truck Friday • Vandalism at Lincoln and Casa del Sol Parks • Lost 3 trees in wind storm • 3Rivers park progressing IV. Other a. Area Wide Park Board Meeting will take place on the evening of Oct. 1 at the Senior Center during our normal Park Board meeting time. b. Update on Park Construction – Road 60/Three Rivers Dr. • Construction on school is all but finished, progress now being made on park. c. Capital Improvement Plan • Rick listed each of the items (parks, trails, & projects) that are included in the CIP d. Informed board that the Head Start Lease of MLK Center has been extended for another 5 years. V. Council Member Suggestions & Report a. Arthur Job asked about the community garden, how things were growing. He offered to do a soil test. b. Robert Garcia asked about having a Park Board Meeting at Peanuts Park once the design had been agreed upon so that they could get a better visual of what is going to be changing. • Rick suggested trying to get approval to invite the Park Board to one of the pre-design meetings with the DPDA and the Consultant, so that they could ask questions and give input on the design. c. Robert Garcia asked if there were any plans for a grand opening or ribbon cutting upon completion of the new playgounds or if any communication was going out as to when the playgrounds were going to be completed. • No ribbon cuttings planned, news flashes can be sent to communicate.
