III. Staff Reports
a. Recreation Highlights
• New Program Guide - Spanish start from reverse flipped and read from back.
• Pool (already at 97% of budgeted admissions revenue and over 100% of
budgeted Swim Lesson Revenue)
• Season Passes - $4,775 in sales this year.
• Concessionaire did not work out - doing it ourselves
• Cardboard Regatta
• Free Kids Friday - Deal with Apple Valley Dental
• Two $2 Tuesdays - 427 (not counting groups) at first on July 14 next is
August 11.
• Family Swim – Avg. 178; last year 2nd 1/2 of the summer was 29
• Grand Old 4th Parade and Fireworks - Went well
• New Special Event: Family Fun and Safety Day - Free Swim Sponsored by
Moon Security, free hotdogs, chips and bottled water (Yokes and Lithia), Fire,
Police and P&R had booths, trucks and games
• Color Dash on Saturday, August 22 - Need Volunteers
• Tons of Trucks - With Fiery Farmers Market (8:00am-Noon)
b. Senior Center Highlights
• Footcare update: 691 ($8415), 793 ($7176)
• Replaced Grease Trap in Kitchen – Meals on Wheels closed for one day
• Recommended Use of Cyber Stop and City Hall for transition
c. Park Maintenance Highlights
• Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
• Park & Facility Projects
• Swept bike path
• Fertilized various parks
• Striped fields for soccer and football
• Installed a new door at MLK
• Replaced the lights at Dust Devils
• Installed new software and smart control system

d. Administrative & Community Services Director
• Agreement for the Purchase and Sale of the Senior Center between the City
and the School District has been signed. The school now has a grace period
until the end of the month to do a final check to make sure the building will
meet their needs.
• The City is back to looking at the vacant lots in front of GESA Stadium as the
location for the new Community Center.
• Robert commented that something will need to be done to provide a safer
way to cross Burden when the building is complete.
• Craig commented that there needs to be better signage for the bike path
near the softball complex and TRAC.
• Council passed the smoking ban for Peanuts Park; the city will be moving
forward with rebuild of the park.
• Will start work on the Park located at the corner of Three Rivers Dr. and Rd.
60 within a week. This is the park that is a joint effort with the School District
(McClintock School).
• Revamping the Quarterly Report for City Council. Each department will be
limited to one page and the focus will be on significant things that the Council
does not already know about us.
• Going into Budget season: ACS will be asking for additional staff for the
Parks and Facilities Division.
• Received approval from BNSF to install the Sacajawea Trail underpass at the
railroad bridge at Schlagel Park. The City will soon be meeting with the Corps
of Engineers to discuss their approval process.
IV. Other
a. Board agreed with selling adds in the program guide to help pay for it, but asked
us to be cautious to not let the guide get overrun by ads.
V. Council Member Suggestions & Report
a. Craig Howell commented that the neighborhood park near his home looked very
good and was getting lots of use from the community.
b. Edmon Daniels asked if a mural of Mr. Peanuts was going to be in Peanuts Park
c. Roberto Garcia asked about the progression on a west side Community Park and
whether the building of a Community Center on Burden would affect it. Rick
responded that the west side park is still in the plans and progressing.
