Call to order at 5:32 p.m. Board Members Present: Robert Garcia Tom Davenport - Chairperson Saul Martinez – City Council Rep Arthur Job Staff Present: Craig Howell Dan Dotta, Facilities Manager Edmon Daniels Brent Kubalek, Recreation Services Manager Jason Ruud Rick Terway, Director, A&CS Abigail Kidd Dave Zabell, City Manager II. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes (December 4, 2014) – Moved by Edmon, seconded by Craig – Approved. Election of Chairperson – Robert moved to nominate Tom Davenport as Chairperson, Edmon seconded – Approved. III. Staff Reports a. Recreation Highlights i. Mom's & Son's Night Out - Feb. 20. ii. Discount Tickets to Americans Game on Feb 21. iii. Partnering with YMCA and Dust Devils to host a Color Dash on August 22. Each person will get a ticket to a Dust Devil's Game. iv. Adult and Youth Basketball and Adult Volleyball are in full swing. Winter VB season started two years ago - had 6 then 8 teams. This year we have two divisions, 16 teams. v. Have met with other community organizations looking for ways to collaborate. Have met with Boys and Girls Club & Tierra Vida. vi. Have tournaments booked at the Pasco Softball Complex for almost every weekend from March through September. b. Senior Center Highlights i. Footcare Program going well with funding education efforts. 1. 111/$1,055 last year = $9.50 per person. 2. 92/$1,214 this year = $13.20 per person. 3. Purposefully scheduling fewer appointments and spacing appointments a little further apart in an effort to make funding last a little longer. ii. Meals on Wheels has new contractor for meal preparation so May 1 will be last day for Aramark to at the Senior Center. iii. Starting to work on Volunteer Reception (Tuesday, April 14, 6pm). c. Park Maintenance Highlights i. Personnel Activity 1. Attended Monthly Safety Meetings. 2. Attended Playground Inspectors Certification Course. 3. Attended pesticide training. 4. Attended new work order training (Cartegraph). ii. Park & Facility Projects 1. Burned tumbleweeds. 2. Pruned various trees (Rd 52, Sandifur, Madison, Rd 84, Rd 100, Chapel Hill). 3. Pruned arborvitae at Sylvester, McGee and Butterfield. 4. Thinned brush around Animal Control. 5. Leaf removal. 6. Swept bike path. 7. Started preparing the softball fields, base anchors and misc. repairs. 8. Poured 2 pads for Volunteer Park shelters. 9. Repaired small equipment for the season. 10. Installed new drinking fountain donated by the YMCA. iii. Cemetery 1. Staff member retired. 2. 2 funerals. 3. New items for the customers to choose from vaults and headstones. 4. Now accept checks and credit cards. 5. Initiated software system at the Cemetery. iv. Special Events 1. Tree City USA (pruned 1376, planted 60 and removed 27). IV. Other a. Rick updated the Board on Soccer programs, the Cemetery and the Senior Center. V. Council Member Suggestions & Reports a. Tom praised service of City citing how he had reported a burned out street light and it was fixed within a day. b. Tom asked if the Rec Staff was going to be hosting/helping with the High School All-Stars Basketball Game (The Media Classic) – Brent said he would check with Nolan and report back. c. Tom and Robert asked about pool pass sales – Brent reported that there has not been any yet. d. Robert asked about the advertising of the Mom’s & Son’s Night Out and suggested sending the information to the elementary PTO’s so they could help disseminate the flyer. e. Craig asked if there were updates on the West Pasco Community Park – Rick and Dave reported that the City Council has set aside funds for this project but beyond that there is no additional progress to report at this time. VI. Meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
