HomeMy WebLinkAbout1247 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO, 1247-- A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITIES OF PASCO AND KENNEWICK CALLING FOR ABATEMENT OF THE OLD PASCO-KENNEWICK BRIDGE WHEREAS, a new cable -stay bridge has been constructed over Lake Wallula between the cities of Pasco and Kennewick known a's the Intercity Bridge; and WHEREAS, the opening of the new Pasco -Kennewick Intercity Bridge has eliminated the necessity of retaining the old Pasco -Kennewick bridge; and WHEREAS, the old Pasco -Kennewick bridge is in a deteriorated and unsafe condition and constitutes an unnecessary danger to the passage of commerce on Lake Wallula; and WHEREAS, the federal government will participateā€¢ in the abatement of said bridge by financing 80 percent of the costs thereof; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENNEWICK that the old Pasco -Kennewick bridge is hereby found and declared to be a public nuisance; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the cities of Pasco and Kennewick shall share the costs of the abatement of said bridge not funded by the federal government, equally, with each city paying 10 percent; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the administrations of both cities are hereby authorized to proceed with all necessary steps to secure the abatement of said nuisance within a reasonable time and to do all acts necessary and proper to secure the federal government's participation in said abatement in the amount of 80 percent of the costs thereof.
