A RESOLUTION Urging U.S. Highway 395 link between Pasco and Ritzville be
implemented into the Interstate System.
W H E R E A S, the Tri -Cities area of Washington State is experiencing a
most rapid growth rate and is expected to continue this growth on a steady
basis; and
WHEREAS, growth in population represents a concomittant growth in
traffic on the streets and highways; and
WHEREAS , traffic creates many problems in the Tri -Cities area, one
of the more serious concerns is the very heavy traffic on U.S. Highway 395
between Ritzville and Pasco, a two-lane highway which is inadequate for the
traffic being served; and
WHEREAS , the strategic location and the strategic significance of
the Tri -Cities area in the economy and defense of our state and nation are
factors significant in the development of the Interstate System; and
WHEREAS , U.S. Highway 395 links Interstate 90 with Interstate 82,
it appears that there is justification to designate this portion of 395 as an
Interstate Highway; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO:
Section 1. That U.S. Secretary of Transportation Brock Adams, be
requested to implement placing the named Ritzville-Pasco segment of Highway
