HomeMy WebLinkAbout1183 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 1183 A RESOLUTION Urging U.S. Highway 395 link between Pasco and Ritzville be implemented into the Interstate System. W H E R E A S, the Tri -Cities area of Washington State is experiencing a most rapid growth rate and is expected to continue this growth on a steady basis; and WHEREAS, growth in population represents a concomittant growth in traffic on the streets and highways; and WHEREAS , traffic creates many problems in the Tri -Cities area, one of the more serious concerns is the very heavy traffic on U.S. Highway 395 between Ritzville and Pasco, a two-lane highway which is inadequate for the traffic being served; and WHEREAS , the strategic location and the strategic significance of the Tri -Cities area in the economy and defense of our state and nation are factors significant in the development of the Interstate System; and WHEREAS , U.S. Highway 395 links Interstate 90 with Interstate 82, it appears that there is justification to designate this portion of 395 as an Interstate Highway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO: Section 1. That U.S. Secretary of Transportation Brock Adams, be requested to implement placing the named Ritzville-Pasco segment of Highway 395 into the Interstate Highway system so that its ultimate development as a four -lane highway can be expedited. Section 2. That the City of Pasco's concern about this matter be also conveyed to the Washington State Transportation Commission and to the Washington State Congressional Delegation in the U.S. Congress , more particularly to the Honorable Thomas Foley, Congressman from the Fifth District.
