October 31, 1977 va,qro ,"ire Mepartrrtent P. O. BOX 293, PASCO, WASHINGTON 99301 TO: George Smith, City Manager/ FROM: John Hager, Fire Chief SUBJECT: INCREASED AMBULANCE CHARGES Attached is a suggestion for increasing revenue through ambulance charges. Since the ambulance has never been self-supporting, and continually subsidized from the General Fund, I would recommend the ambulance chargesbe increased so that the present level of services will be self-supporting. The estimated increase in revenue is $42,890 annually. This approach includes $3,400 from Fire District No. 3 as in the past, also charges supplies and materials used.. In the past, the City has not been charging for materials. Also attached is a list of supplies and materials and what charges will be paid by Welfare. I would recommend that our charges be based on these figures. Increase in Ambulance charges and services which is based on an $80 charge for residents and $160 for non-residents. Also, it is based on Medicare's 80% up to a maximum of $70, and Welfare maximum of $36.90 per call. 250 Medicare (City) @'80% of $80 = $64 16,000 50 Welfare (City) @ $36.90 1,845 280 Other (City) @ $80 22,400 80 Medicare (Non-residents) @ maximum $70 5,600 6 Welfare (Non-residents) @ $36.90 221 130 Other (Non-residents) @ $160 20,800. 4 Miles average per call @ $2.00 per mile. 6,368 263 Calls using Oxygen @ $12 3,156 584 Calls using Materials @ $5.0.0 2,920 TOTAL: $7.9,310 Page Two Mr. George Smith 7% Anticipated Uncollectable (Residents) $ 3,252 20% Anticipated Uncollectable,(Non-Residents) 6,568 Total: $69,490 Subsidy Franklin County Fire District #3 3,400 Total: $72,890 Less Existing City Revenue: 30,000 TOTAL INCREASE IN REVENUE: $42,890 k .
