HomeMy WebLinkAbout1027 Resolution(V 1027 • RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FORMATION OF A TRI - METRO CITIZENS COMMITTEE. WHEREAS, local units of government in the Tri -Cities Urban area have jointly investigated cost-saving methods of providing public services through a Financing Public Services Study by Harry Prior & Associates in 1974; and WHEREAS, the Tri -Cities Nuclear Industrial Council has recommended that local jurisdictions establish a citizens committee to investigate and make recom- mendations concerning the formation of a Metropolitan Service District for the Tri -Cities urban area; and WHEREAS, local elected officials met with Mr. James Ellis on October 30 to learn about the formation and services provided by Seattle METRO; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Richland to encourage further investi- gation of the steps required for establishment of a Tri -Cities Metropolitan Service District (TRI -METRO); NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Formation of a TRI -METRO Committee as recommended by the Tri - Cities Nuclear Industrial Council is hereby approved subject to: 1) modification of the method of selecting members of the Citizens Com- mittee to allow flexibility in each jurisdiction; and 2) approval of Benton and Franklin Counties and the Cities of Pasco, Kenne- wick and Richland. (Proposal Attached) Section 2. The Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to take such steps as are appropriate to initiate and support the Committee. Section 3.
