Roach, City Attorney Donald D. Linton, Mayor 1975. 1028 W. Henry St. Pasco, Wash. Nov. 13, 1975 Mayor Don Linton And Council Members City of Pasco Pasco, Wash. Dear Mayor Linton: We want to express a viewpoint on the naming of the downtown mini -park for the late Reggie Denny. Thirty-two years ago we came to Pasco, which then was practically an oasis in the Desert as compared to the present ti#e. Mr,Denny was one of the first to give us encouragement when our present home was in a block sticking out in a sand pile.He helped many of us to get a garden club started and even taught us how to grow flowers for this area.I could go on and on with similar situations but too many know all of this.He has helped youth groups, given demonstrations, served as judge without pay.He never re- fused to help. We simply cannot understand why there should be any opp- osition to the nam,*ng idea.He was not the kind of persons to keep a list of his accomplishments. If any one has doubt and feels a list of sponsors is nec- eesary we would be happy to devote time to get this list, which would be very, very long we are sure. Sincerely, Mr. and Krs. Lincoln Newell KIWANIS CLUB OF PASCO P. O. BOX 556. PASCO. WASHINGTON 99301 August 21, 1975 Parks Board Pasco, Wn. Gentlemen: Reggie Denney was many things to Pasco. His years of work for the railroad benefited not only the railroad, but also, in'a very direct way, the City of Pasco. His six years on the City Council were marked by an interest seldom found in members of that group. Reggie undoubtedly knew the code book by memory and in detail. Mr. Denney was a naturalist. His mineral collection was one of the most outstanding in the area. In fact, he was familiar, by name, with most of the wildlife in the Mid -Columbia Basin. And he shared his know- ledge with adults and children alike, speaking to clubs and other groups as the invitations came. Reggie will be remembered as a man of rare good conscience. He pro- fited by his own mistakes and tried to pave the way so others also could profit. He was humble enough to say I'm sorry. What sort of a monument is appropriate for a man who, as Jack Briggs said, "gave Pasco much more than Pasco ever gave him?" If Mr. Denney were to choose, he would probably choose a garden. He was happiest when sharing his garden with a friend. And long after the present issues of the Pasco City Council have died down and are no longer even issues, residents who were fortunate enough to know him will remember the tall slim man who loved growing things. Mr. Denney is gone now, but what more fitting tribute could be found than a park --named in his honor --in which his beloved trees and flowers can always be shared with the people of Pasco. We as a club would be interested in helping in such a project in our Community. Sincerely Yours, Carl Perry President CP:lrt / 147 ' 51 - _a - 7r4— //- 4- 7.9-
