A RESOLUTION REQUESTING HUGHES AIRWEST TO PROVIDE INTERIM
PROPJET SERVICE TO THE TRT CITIES AIRPORT DURING A PERIOD
OF RUNWAY REPAIR.
WHEREAS, due to runway improvements, it is necessary that the Tri Cities
Airport will have limited operation, closed to heavy aircraft traffic, for a
period of 35 days, from May 20th to June 25, 1974, and
WHEREAS, this construction will provide Airwest, as well as other air
carriers, safe and acceptable service, as well as enabling the use of larger
aircraft, and
WHEREAS, the air hoardings from the Tri Cities Airport for the year 1973
consisted of 51,444; and the average for 1974 is 5,000 boardings per month, a
ratio of one to one for deplaning of approximately 5,000 persons, and
WHEREAS, since there are some estimated 10,000 people using the Hughes
Airwest Service to and from the Tri Cities monthly, it must be recognized
that the service provided to the Tri Cities by Hughes Airwest, as a major
airline carrier, is an absolute necessity to the welfare and economy of the
Tri -Cities, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON,
requests Hughes Airwest to make a concerted effort between this date and the
date of May 20, 1974, to provide propjet aircraft shuttle service between the
Tri Cities and Yakima, Washington, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Hughes Airwest file a complete report for
public reading through the Tri Cities Chambeil of Commerce as to alternate
methods reviewed in determining said type of shuttle transportation between
the Tri Cities Airport and the City of Yakima, Washington, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
Hughes Airwest Management Personnel, the Civil Aeronautics Board, and
Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, on this
19 day of March, 1974, and signed in authentication of its passage this
19 day of March, 1974.
