RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION PETITIONING THE PRESIDENT AND
THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO RE -
INSTATE FUNDING FOR THE OFFICE OF ECONOMIC
OPPORTUNITY OR AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO APPROVE
SPECIAL REVENUE SHARING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT
SO THAT ESSENTIAL AND BENEFICIAL O.E.O. PRO -
GRAMS CAN CONTINUE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.
WHEREAS, The elimination of the Office of Economic Opportunity will prob-
ably result in the termination of the Benton -Franklin Community Action Committee
unless Special Revenue Sharing money is available; and
WHEREAS, Such termination will result in the elimination of many essential
and beneficial programs now available to the people of this area; and
WHEREAS, There will be insufficient local funds to continue most of these
programs at their present level unless Special Revenue Sharing is initiated; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary that most of these programs continue without
interruption; and
WHEREAS, The elimination of the Office of Economic Opportunity will result
in increased unemployment in many areas which are continuing to have economic
and unemployment problems; NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON
Section 1. That the Pasco City Council hereby petitions President Richard M. Nixon
and the Congress of the United States to reinstate funding for the Office of Economic
Opportunity or as an alternative to initiate Special Revenue Sharing funding to local
government so that the Benton -Franklin Community Action Committee can continue
essential and beneficial programs without interruption.
Resolution No. -2- Date:
Section 2. That the present 2 -Year revenue sharing demonstration grant currently
being implemented be allowed to continue until its established termination date of
June 30, 1974.
Section 3. That copies of this Resolution be sent to President Nixon, Senators
Magnuson and Jackson and Congressmen Foley, McCormack, Meeds, Hicks,
Adams, Hansen and Pritchard.
PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED as provided by law this 6th
day of March, 1973.
