A RESOLUTION DIRECTED TO THE ATTENTION OF THE
HONORABLE DANIEL J. EVANS, CONCERNING THE MAT-
TER OF THE CONTINUING NEED FOR AN OFFICE OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES IN THE EASTERN PART
OF THE STATE.
WHEREAS, the Field Representative of the Washington Department of Water
Resources in Ephrata (Mr. Paul Hamilton) has been assigned new
duties with the State, which require his residence in Olympia;
Washington; and
WHEREAS, the activities of this office of the Department of Water Resources
and its predecessor, the Columbia Basin Commission, have been
of vital importance in the development of irrigated farming in
Eastern Washington and:.thereby to the great economic growth of
the State as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the full development of Eastern Washington's great land and water
resources, representing the greatest part of the State's potential,
is far from complete; and
WHEREAS, the offices of numerous agencies, both public and private, with
similar goals are located in this area of the State and have come
to look to the office of the Department of Water Resources both
for support and as a coordinator of the programs; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO HEREBY RESOLVE:
Section 1. That the Governor of the State of Washington and the Director of the
Department of Water Resources be most urgently petitioned to re -staff and main-
tain the office of the Department of Water Resources in Eastern Washington.
Section 2. It is hereby requested, that because of the isolation from other offices
of the Department, that serious and thoughtful consideration be given to the pos-
sibility of a modest increase in the staff of the Eastern Washington office of the
Department of Water Resources.
Section 3. It is hereby directed, that the City Clerk of Pasco, Washington
transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the office of the Governor of the
State of Washington and one to the office of the Director of the Department of
Water Resources.
Section 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect after its passage and
approval as required by law.
