AN ORDINANCE GRANTING PAID SICK. LEAVE TO THE FULL TIME EMPLOYEES
OF THE CITY OF PASCO, SETTING FORTH THE CONDITIONS ON WHICH A SICK
LEAVE MAY BE GRANTED, SETTING FORTH THE NUMBER OF DAYS WHICH CAN
BE ACCUMULATED UNDER THIS ORDINANCE,` SETTING FORTH THE ACTION TO
BE TAKEN FOR ABUSE OF SICK LEAVE AND REPEALING SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 535 AND PASCO CITY CODE 2-2.08 AS IT NOW EXISTS,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. For the purpose of administering this ordinance, a full time
employee shall mean any, employee hired to work not less than 100 hours per month
in not less than 10 months of the employment year.
Section 2. Each full time employee shall accrue sick leave at the rate

of one working day for each month a of service. The maximum accruals of sick leave

shall be 90 working days.

Section 3. Sick leave will be allowed for any of the following reasons:
a) Injury or illness of an employee to such an extent to constitute
a hazard to the safety or health of himself or other employees where such injury or
illness was not caused by self-abuse or self -infliction.
b) Quarantine of an employee due to exposure to contagious disease.
c) Medical care.
Section 4. Use of sick leave shall be subject to the following restrictions:
a) Misuse of sick leave shall be cause for disciplinary counseling.
Continued misuse after disciplinary counseling shall be cause for discharge.
b) Pay in lieu of accumulated sick leave shall not be given when
an employee terminates his employment with the City.
c) The City, acting through its authorized personnel which shall
include department heads, the City Supervisor -Engineer, and/or the Mayor, reserves
the right to request a physician's statement from the employee's doctor describing the
nature of the employee's illness and certifying the ability or inability of the employee
to resume duty.
d) The City reserves the right to require an employee to be
examined by a licensed physician acceptable to the City at the City,s expense.
e) A full time employee shall not be entitled to paid sick leave
until he or she has been continuously in the employ of the City for three months.
Section 5. Section 2 of Ordinance No. 535 and Pasco City Code 2-2. 08
as it now exists are hereby repealed.
Section 6. This ordinance to be in full force and effect after its passage
and publication as required by law.
PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED by the Mayor this 7th
day of May, 1963.
