HomeMy WebLinkAbout0631 OrdinanceORDINANCE NO. 631 AN ORDINANCE CHANGING AND FIXING THE SALARY OF MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY IN THE SUM OF $17oll5.00 TO DEFRAY THE EXPENSE OF THE INCREASE IN SALARY, WITHIN THE CITY OF PASCO, AND APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $17,115.00. THEREFORE, WHEREAS SINCE THE CITY BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 1948 WAS MADE, WAGES AND SALARIES IN THE VICINITY OF PASCO HAVE SO GREATLY INCREASED AND EXPENSES HAVE SO INCREASED THAT IT IS NO LUNGER POSSIBLE TO KEEP AN EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE CITY OF PASCO VE THOUT INCREASING THE SALARY OF THE DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF SAID DEPARTMENT, AND WHEREAS SAID INCREASES AND THE NECESSITY FOR INCREASE OF SALARY COULD NOT REASONABLY HAVE BEEN FORESEEN AT THE TIME OF ADOPTING THE BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 1948s AND WHEREAS THE SAID BUDGET FOR 1948 IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO COVER THE INCREASE IN SALARIES. Now, therefore, the City Council of the City of Pasco, do ordain as follows: SECTION ONE: That from and after the first day of June 1948, the salaries of the police officers of the City of Pasco shall be as follows, to -wit: For Patrolmen and Clerks, the sum of $270.00.per month for the first 6 months, 280.00 per month for the next 6 months, 290:00 per month for the next 12 to 24 mos., 295,00 per month for 24 to 36 months, and 300,00 per month at all times after.the first 36 months. That the salary of the Chief of Police from and after the first day of June, 1948, M all be $365.00 per month; That the salary of the Captain of Police shall be F $330.00 per month; That the salary of the 'Sergeant shall be $315.00 per mo. SECTION TWO: That an emergency exists in the City of Pasco in that wages and salaries in the vicinity of Pasco have so greatly increased and expenses have so increased that it is no longer possible to keep an efficient and effective police department in the City of Pasco with- out increasing the salary of the different members of said department, and whereas said increases and the necessity for increase of salary could not reasonably have been foreseen at the time of adopting the budget for the year 1948, and whereas the said budget for 1948 is not sufficient to cover the increase in salaries and it becomes necessary to appropriate a larger amount in order to cover the salaries in the sum of $17,115.00; now, therefore, the Mayor and City Clerk of the City •.1 of Pasco are hereby authorized upon approval of appropriate voucher approved by the City Council, to issue warrants from'the current expense -1- fund to cover any amount in excess of the present budget necessary to meet the said raise in salary. SECTION THREE: There is hereby appropriated to the current expense fund for the above mentioned purposes, the sum of $17,115,00, all in addition to any monies contained in the original budget and estimate of expenses heretofore adopted by the City Council for the year 1948. SECTION FOUR: This ordinance to become effective immediately upon the approval or signing by the Mayor, or the passage of the same over his veto, as provided by law.
