RECESSED MEETING COUNCIL CHAMBER SEPTEMBER 2341948
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 2:00 o'clock P.M., Honorable Mayor W. A.
Nelson, presiding.
ROLL CALL: By Clerk, Councilmen present were Charles Grigg, A. T. Hostetter, T. G.
Overlie and C. R. Wallis. Absent were John Beck, Art Glasow, Jr., and H. G.
Lake; also City Attorney D. W. Zent.
FILTRATION PLANT UNIT NO. 3, CALL FOR BIDS:
N One bid was received, opened and read from the Neon Electric Co., Pasco,
Washington; approximate total $24,000.00. Motion made by Overlie, seconded by
Grigg, that the bid be turned to John W. Cunningham and Associates for extensions
and recommendation by Tuesday, October 5th, 1948; motion carried unanimously.
REGULAR ORDER OF BUSINESS SET ASIDE by unanimous consent.
PETITION TO VACATE: (John Dietrich)
PETE PETERSON appeared for John Di trich relative to vacating an alley
in Block 5, East Rivetdiae Addition. The Mayor turned this to a special
committee; Hostetter, Grigg and Wallis. They are to also consider all requests
for vacating, bring in recommendation October 5th, 1948.
BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES COUNCIL:
A letter was read from Mr. J. L. Hofmaster, Secretary -Treasurer request-
ing an appointment for their Executive Board.
i The foregoing date was arranged and most trades were represented at this
time.
Mr. HcE.Cl&ry of Benton City opened the discussion relative to labor
now employed at the Filtration Plant by the Contractor Everett McKellar, Union
policies were discussed by several representatives. No decisloticwasareached.
Trades Council willing to meet again with City Council and Mr. McKellar to try
and settle differences.
PACIFIC TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY:
A letter was read from R. D. Miller, Chief Engineer, requesting a permit
to run sewer line in Sixth Avenue from the Northwest corner of the Telephone
Building, northerly to the City Sewer in the alley, as per plans on file with
the City Building Inspector. Motion made by Grigg that the request be granted,
2 City Clerk to so advise the Water Superintendent and the Building Inspector, also
Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co.,

CIVIL SERVICE:
CA letter was read from Mayor Nelson to R. A. Cruzen, accepting his
resignation from the Civil Service Commission. Motion made by Grigg, seconded
by Wallis approving the acceptance of Cruzen's resignation. Motion carried
unanimous.
OVER HEAD LIGHTING:
Charles Grigg and Mayor Nelson reported on their tour for information
on overhead lighting. In most Citys the Utility Tax reconciles the cost of
lighting. City Clerk to secure a copy of the contract between the City of Long-
view and the P.U.D.
PUBLIC HEARING:
on changing Section 4 of Ordinance No. 456.
Legal Notice was read, no protests were made either by person or in
writing.
REFUND LICENSE fee Boyd Tucker Cafe license fee. Motion made by Grigg,
secondd.d by Overlie that a refund be granted on presentation of City Treasurer's
redeipt, account cafe not passing health inspection. Motion carried unanimous.
ADJOURNMENT:
Motion made by Overlie, seconded by Hostetter that the meeting adjourn
to next Regular Meeting Tuesday, October 5, 1948; motion carried.
