Nelson presiding. ROLL CALL: Roll call by clerk, councilmen present were John Beck, Charles Grigg, A.T. Hostetter, H.G. Lake, T.G. Overlie' and C.R. Wallis; Art Glasow Jr. arrived at eig_;ht .five, City Attorney Zent arrived at 8:05 o'clock P.U. REGULAR ORDER OF BUSINESS SET ASIDE by unanimous consent. UNDERGROUND TANK FOR ELMER SMITH MOTORS: Idly. Kahl spoke to the council relative to installing an underground tank 30" x 30', six feet deep, will need to go under side walk three feet, water manager to check lines in this alley, motion made by Hostetter that this be turned to the `'dater Committee and V -later IVIanager with power to act and then make report, motion seconded by Beck, carried so ordered, committee to meet with Mr. Kahl 'Wednesday at 9:00 o'clock A.M. CITY CENSUS: The City Clerk requested permission to take the city census in accordance with Chapter 51, Laws of 1947, enumeration to be taken by the precinct at five cents per capita, financing smle with unspent registration money, motion made by Grigg authorizing the City Clerk to use unspent money from registration funds for taking census as requested by the State Census Board, motion seconded by Overlie carried by roll call vote of six (6); Glasow was not present. L.A. SIMMONSON-LICENSE APPLICATION: Mr. Simmonson presented an application to operate a wholesale paper & supply business at 129 W. Lewis to be operated under the name of Columbia Basin Paper & Supply; operators L.A. Si?umonson and I.H. Hastings; motion made by Grigg seconded by Lake that the license be issued, motion carried. THE 1948 TL+NTATIVE BUDGET: was reviewed. In checking the Police Department, motion was made by Lake to cut man pdwer down to three men between Police and Fire Departments as phone clerk:and office clerk, motion seconded by neck, carried. SEVER FOR H.B. YOUNKER: Three houses are to be erected on Wehe between Last Clark and Bonneville, they are recuesting; that the sewer be extended in the alley of Block 2, Wehe's First Addition, Mayor Nelson excused himself from the meeting; at this time. Mayor Pro -Tem takes over the meeting, following; further discussion this was turned to a committee, Lake, Grigg and Hostetter, committee to meet and make investigation Wednesday, August 27th. RECREATION: T. Benson requests permission to close the Recreation center on Labor Day, this was granted with out dissent; No more work was done on the budget. AD JOURNI,4ENT : Motion made by Wallis seconded by Lake that the meeting adjourn to Tuesday, September 2nd, eight o'clock P.M1., motion carried.
