SPECIAL MEETING COUNCIL CHAMBER JULY 81 1947 i
CALL TO ORDER:
Meeting called to order at 7:35 o'clock P.M., Honorable i4iayor Walter A. Nelson
presiding.
ROLL CALL: By clerk, councilmen present were John Beck, Art E. Glas,ow Jr..., Charles Grigg
A.T. Hostetter, H.G.'Lake and T.G. Overlie, C.R. Wallis was absent, City, Attorney
D.W. Zent was present.
NAVAL AIR STATION:
i A wire was read from Warren G. Magnuson, U.S. Senator of July 2nd stating
approval by the'Senate Committee of the Pasco Air Base disposal permit. A letter
was read. from Captain J.S. Tracy authorizing temporary storage of farm.crops on
the station, pending execution of permit, the Mayor advises that there are twelve
(12) carloads of Pic -Sweet peas on station at this time to be stored in warehouse
number 4., they guarantee "$250.00 per month, Jack Wright, Waitsburg, Washington
submitted rates used other, places for the same type of storage.
MR. H.W. DUNHAM: has requested the photographic Department of the Administration
building which occupies a'small space, this was also granted by the navy for a
testing laboratory..
ORDINANCE: In a discussion pertaining to setting up anordinance covering air
base operations, the City Attorney suggested that each member of the Council
read the 1945 Laws, Chapter 182, preparatory to forming a resolution and
Ordinance, a copy of the law to be furnished by the City Clerk. It was suggested
that Drew from Seattle be requested to attend a meeting with the council as he
has had varied experience with Air Base operations by lease, etc.
MAINTENANCE: It was decided to hire a man at this time to take care of the water
and other emergencies. Foy VV. Earnest now doing this work at the base was dis-
cussed, motion made by Overlie seconded by Grigg that Mr.. Foy W. Earnsest be
employed temporary so the water can be turned.on for the Pic -Sweet Company at
going wage of the Water Department, motion carried by roll call vote of six (6)..
Earnest to be carried in the Water Department until Harris returns; all personell
will have to be carried by City Departments until ordinance and fund become
operative.
'APPLICATIONS FOR MANAGER: Bob Skill in person applied for the position as
Manager of the Baval Air Station, staging his qualifications, recommendations,
education, etc. Other applications have been filed. Mr. Hill Williams spoke of
receiving a call from a firm that wants to obtain storage space at the base, soon

as possible.
O.H. OL'SON: said the Chamber of Commerce were ready to help in any way possible.
HARRY CUSTER: sd d the Northern Pacific Traffic Department was always on the
look out for needed storage both cold and. dry and would assist in keeping _
storage space rented.
COMMITTEES:
A civilian committee will be appointed tow ork with Manager, soon as lease is
negotiated.
ADJOURNMENT:
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 o'clock P.M.
