Johnston presiding. ROLL CALL: By Clerk. Councilmen present W. E. Drennan, M. J. Linderman, V. F. 11arshall and D.F. Rodkey, amd City Attorney Karl J. Grimm. Councilmen absent were D. Byron Baker, C. L. Booth and Charles Diemond. BILLS: Two vouchers were honored for payment from the Recreation Fund. One presen- ted by Dorothea Kembel, phonograph records $9.00, and the City Treasurer C.O.D. package of games, $12.50. !.lotion was made by 11arshall, seconded by Linderman that the bills be paid. Motion carried by roll call vote of(4) f our . REPORTS FRO11 COIJ11ITTEES: BUILDING COITMITTEE: Reports floors have been laid in the City Treasurer and City Clerk's offices. Counters have not been fixed. 1AT�R AND SEtt1ER Sprinkling Washington Street during sewer installation was discussed with Mr. F*S. Zeidlhack; contractor is oblidged to leave streets in original con- dition, sprinkling not mentioned in contract. The City renting a sprinkler from the County was mentioned in conclusion. Motion was made by T.1a^shall and seconded by Linderman that Mr. Zeidlhack contact the contractor or for - man August 16th aid mare an agreement. Mike Linderman authorized to carry out whatever is reasonable. Motion carried so ordered. NEW PU1,TP Pipe and fittings are here but the pump and meter have not arrived. STREET C01f TITTEE Recommend that three stop signs be installed at the intersection of 9th and Yakima. This was turned to the Police Committee. REGULAR ORDER OF BUSINESS: set aside by unanimous consent. GRADER AND STREET SWEEPER Mr. Iyiowery with the municipal Supply Company, South Bend, Indiana, pointed out the redeeming features of their street sweeper and Gallion I,Iotor Patrol. The Street Committee will prepare srecifications to call for bids and budget for purchase. COIN"_FORT STATION A letter was read from Wendell Brown; R. Denny presented a sketch and floor plan of a proposed comfort station which was discussed and turned to the Building Committee for consideration and recommendation. Haupmister was present and wished to Turchase the Model 10 Catepillar for ti350.00. The Street Committee recommended selling this piece of equip- ment providing O.P.A. rules and state laws governing such transactions are complied with. Motion made by Marshall and seconded by Diemond that the Street Committee be given power to act uron receiving legal information from the City Attorney. Motion carried so ordered. PORTABLE LUNCH STAND Mr. Erichson own a lunch counter on wheels and desires to acquire permission to be stationed near the Northern Pacific Depot, he was instructed to con- tact the Health Department and Building Inspector before preparing to oper- ate. REGULAR ORDER OF BUSINESS RESUMED: by unanimous consent. REPORTS FROM OFFICERS: The City Treasurers monthly report for July 1944 was read. Nater T'lanager reports for June and July were read. City Clerk furnished each member a copy of the July Budget of all de- partments. Lape desires to have the property purchase agreement with the city changed to read six months after priority is received instead of six months from February 15, 1944 as the agreement now reads. Motion made by IElarshall and seconded by Linderman to stand by the agreement and return check to T,Ir. Lape. I:lotion carried so ordered. LOVELAIvD ROOIJS 126z 1MVIS 'STREET Al Loveland has never obtained a City License to rent rooms at 1261 -West Lewis Street. He paid $5.00 on a license application to have a room for dancing in the basement under the Osborn Grill, 126 ,st Lewis which was rejected by the Council. T-Totion was made by Rodkey and seconded by Marshall that the amount $5.00 be refunded for the license7ejected when the delinquent license for the rooms is paid. I.lotion carried so ordered. PAY FOR MAYOR AND COUITCILT,WN Rodkey wishes to have an ordinance drawn up to be enclosed in the 1945 Budget covering a salary for the Tlayor of $ 00.00 per ye(Ir and ;240 for the Councilmen. Cite Attorney advises salaries for 14layors and Councilmen are provided for in the state laws and that an ordinance will be drawn in accor- dance with same. COIN COUNTING NIACHINE A coin assorting device has been made by Mr. Rodkey. No action taken re- garding the purchase of a coin wrapping machine. EXT EI;D I Ir G IDAHO STREET No action taken on account of property being in litigation. SETTING BACK CURBS ON YAKIT;IA_STREET No labor available. FILTRATION PLANT::, TIIr. Zeidlhack and Mr. Jensen expressed their ideas relative to the city obtaining a sediment and coagulation plant, 11r. Zeidlhack feels that -the city would have to stand a good share of the costs, and suggested that the third application be made to the Federal Agency; in case this was decided upon he thought it would be well to enclude a filter tank. A 54 million gallon water storage tank was also favored. Motion made by Drennan seconded by Linderman that the meeting adjourn to next regular meeting night September 5th Tuesday eight oclock. P. M.
