The City Council meet at 9;3.0 A.I. pursuant to adjournment at the gravel pit on Ainsworth Avenue, Councilmen present were D. Byron Baker, C. L. Booth, W. E. Drennan , H. J. Linderman, V. F. Marshall and D. F. Rodkey. Chas Diemond was absent. Councilmen spent considerable time discussing the gravel pit with owner Harold Blanton, and then adjourned to the Committee room of the City Hall. pRD�1':, 'U �n� i NO.4 9 ' v -L-L rd red before the coundil regarding the adoption of Ordinance No 499, and the situation retarding practices in defense housing was explained by the Mayor. Ordinance No. 499 was read and after discussion it was moved ,by 11Iarshall seconded byDrennan that Ordinance Ido. 499 be adopted Drdinance No. 499 was then adopted,by a roll call vote of six and approved by the Mayor. U. S. 0. BUILDING SITE:: The City Attorney reported that the Notthern Pacific Railway Co., officials had been contacted regarding the USO building and that a clearance has been given to the city by the Northern Pacific. GRAVEL PIT:: The miter of the gravel pit was discussed by Ixir. Blanton proposed t( salvage a strip of land on each side Ainsworth Avenue for building purposed. The strip north offthe avenue to be 120 feet. any other filling would be done from future operations. Upon completion of this work it was proposed to vacate the streets in Grays amended addition. A suggestion was also made that Clifton Applegate and Henry GeorI, contractors, be required to assist hlr. Blanton in this and it was moved by Marshall seconded.by Linderman, carried and so ordered that the City Attorney make this proposal to the contractors in lieu of bringing a suit for damages. TRAINS BLOCKING AINSWORTH AVE: The matter of—the trains blocking Ainsworth Avenue for a considerable time was discussed and the City Attorney was instructed to contact the Northern Pacific regarding this matter, and if necessary to prosecute. It was suggested that the situation could be eliminated by requesting the Northern Pacific to move the block signal to the south side of Ainsworth Avenue, so that trains would be stoppi on the bridge if the yards were not clear. ADJOURNIJIENT : It was moved by Marshall, seconded by Linderman that the meeting adjourn to February 23, 1943. motion carried unanimously. ATTESTED:: Karl J.
