Johnston presiding. ROLL CALL:: v . By Clerk councilmen present were D. Byron Baker, W. R. Cox, C. V. Downey R. 0. Hall and M. J.' Linderman. FIRE CHIEF::::::: ITILT WIGHT RESIGNS. Fire'Chief'Milt Wight resigns, Council considers the appointment of a succeeding chief; James Knowlton was recommended by Wilt Wight and favored by the Council; Fireman sleeping at the Fire Station was also discussed."Motion made by Down y seconded by Linderman that the Council go on/ record a@ oanotionibg'theeem- ployment of James Knowlton as a regular fire cheef at $160.00 per month full time basis, also that he will be required to sleep at the Fire Staton at least two nights per week; motion carried so ordered., FEDERAL GRANT FILTRATION UNIT:: The Navy and Army projects are'both using City water, the 3tate'beDgpaFt- ment of Health` report on samples tested is not°entirely satisfactory and the instal- lation of a filtration unit is being considered. John WI. Cunningham, consultant Eng- ineer of Portland -Oregon, discussed`at length with the council regarding filtration plants, locations, and installation. Motion :Wade by Baker'seconded by Downey that Mr. Cunningham be authorized to make application for a 100; Federal Grant Filtrati6n" Unit; The fee for drawing application and expense be allowed in the amount of $250.0( motion carried by roll call vote of five. GRAVEL PIT AT AINSWORTH AI?D RAILROAD TRACKS:: Harold Blanton owner of most of the property, was granted permission - by the council to bring the streets and alleys down to S.P.& S Right a Way grade, he has been selling gravel to a construction company and the streets and alleys have been lowered below grade to quite an extent. Motion made by Baker -seconded by Lind- erman that the City Attorney be instructed to get ouf necessary papers againstCliftor. Applegate and Henry Georgi and Harold Blanton also any other interested parties re- sporttible for lowering the grade by taking sand and gravel out of the city streets and"alley's on Ainsworth just east of the rail road.; motion carried so ordered. a.f REVOLVERS FOR NDTI PATROLMAN; James reports fire arms hard to obtain, foms received from the Defense Supply Corporation,purchase to be negotiated, by unanimous lonsent. AD JOURNITaNT Motion made by Linderman seconded by Cox that the meeting adjourn to next regular,'meeting night Tuesday July 7th, 1942 eight o'clock P. I.I. motion carried so ordered.
