REGULAR MEETING COMMITTEE ROOM MARCH 24.1 1941.
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: At eight o'clock P. M. Honorable Mayor E. S; Johnston presiding.
ROLL CALL:
By City Clerk Councilmen present were D. Byron Baker, Harry Chenoweth, C.
Downey, R. 0. Hall, Robert James and M. J. Linderman; M. J. McDonnell arrived.at
eight -twenty.
READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING:
Minutes of the previous meeting were read, corrected to show ordinances #
461 and 462 were given three readings at the same meeting by unanimous
consent of the Council; Minutes approved as corrected.
BILLS AND CO1,lMUNICATIONS:
K.letter of March 12, 1941 to D, W. McGhee, from Donald G. Evans, State
Director of Health, approving plans for pipe replacement, was read to the Council-.
A letter was read from M. S. Campbell Chief Dilision of Public_ Health Engin-
eering, under the date of March 6th 19419 to Karl J, Grimm, in regard to sewer ex-
tension, this was turned to the Chairman of the Water Committee.
REPORTS FROM COMMITTEES:
The traffic signal light at Fourth & Lewis has been standardized at the app-
roximate cost of $22.00.
Lights petitioned for at Fifth and Dixon and Second and Nixon, would increa:
the current lighting.bill $32.00 per year, this amount was not anticipated at the tj
the present budget was compiled; Chairman of the Committee to advise petitioners in
regard to action taken.
Street Lights are biing installed on Lewis street between Fifth and Sixth,
about 224.feet more cable is needed, Chairman to place this order through City C1erl
Street Sign Project all most completed. ,
EXTENDING FIRST STREET to the highway is being considered The Planning Com-
mittee to work with County Commissioners.for further development.

The hazardous practice of making "U" turns at the west enterencbeof the Unddr-
pass was turned to the Police Committee for investigation.
Safetiz and traffic rules have been reviewed at the grade schools, and the
same program will be reviewed at the High School soon as arrangements can be aomplei
Cleaning at the City Hall is under way.
W.P.A. work at Sylvester Park is progressing, when this is finished the wort
at Kiwanis Beach will be resumed.
Disposition of wooden pipe taken from Volunteer Park, Motion made by Chenow(
seconded by James that all wooded pipe removed from Volunteer Park be sold as follM
6" pipe .10 cents per foot and the 4" pipe .05 cents per foot, motion carried so
ordered.
Committee working on garbage ordinance was again granted more time.
REPORTS FROM OFFICERS:
THe Planning Commission's Report of March 11th, 1941 was read.
Water ManagersD.'W. McGhee's monthly report was read.
City Clerk furnished each member with a February budget report for all
departments,

The Chairman of the Park Committee submits a credit slip showing 22 & 2/3's
cords of wood turned in at the Twin City Lumber Yards from Volunteer Park Valued
at eight dollars per cord.

VACATING_ ARTHUR STREET: ` - .
The Park Committee have requested the vacating of Arthur street between Nixo
and Sylvester, following a short discussion a motion was made by Baker that this b
givena public hearing Aptil 17th, 8 o'clock P.M. motion seconded by James and carried
so ordered.
PORT DISTRICT DESIRE TO PURCHASE CITY. RIVER PROPERTY:,
Warden L. Fann representing the Port District asked the City to sell to the
District lots # 30,31,3233 River Block, and Block 40 River Side Addition to Pas(o
This request -las turned to the Public Property Committee.
NEW TRUCK FOR INATER DEPART1,1ENT ; ;
Mr. D. V. McGhee conversend with the Council in regard to the purchase'of
a new pick up truck for the water Department; Motion made by Linderman seconded by
Chenoweth that the Water Manager draw up bids for advertising on a new pick up tru
bids returnable April 17th, 1941, Motion carried so ordered. That this purchase be
made from a local firm was favored by part of the Council body.
CLEANING LOTS NEAR THE N.P. DEPOT:: On Tacoma and between lst and second on
Clark was discussed; Mation made by Downey seconded by Linderman that the City
Attorney contact property owners for cooperation in this move; Motion carried so
ordered.
TRAILER HOUSES;
Trailer Houses parked at Fourth and Bonneville just west of the Unuin Oil
Service Station was turned to the City Attorney for action.
MISCELLAETEOUS:
WATER STAND&PIPE::
Changing water stand pipe mow located in the alley at the City Hall was dis-
cussed with no action taken.
BILL BOARD::
The bill board for legal notices to be removed from north enterence of the
City Hall and a framed board with glass cover to be erected.
CERTIFICATE OF TITLE ON FORD TRUCK :
A bill of sale and certificate of title was furnished by Hostetter Motor Comp
on the used 1940, one and one-half ton for.d3cdump truck, these were examined by the
street committee and found to be in order.
ADJOURNMENT : :
Motion made by James seconded by Downey that the meeting adjourn to next re-
gular meeting night April 3rd 1941 eight O'Clock P.11. motion carried so ordered.
