Treasurer's report was passed around.
Clerk reoorte.l additional collections of 311.25, including $17-00 for pinball
machines, making total to date $4411.52.
$2.00 fees received for opening and closing sewers is being placed in current ex_
pense fund and matter discussed, and also whether the budget allowance for sewer work shoo
not also properly be placed in City Street Fund. Motion made by Burns, seconded by Wirth
and carried, that the City Clerk be instructed to write to Norman Hill of the State
Highway Dent. and ascertain just what should be done with respect to the sewer fund.
Ordinance No. 429, which had passed two readings and was a proposed renewal of
dontract with the P. P. & L. Co. for street lights in the residence district was discussed
Motion made by Wirth, seconded by Christensen and carried that Ordinance No. 429 be tabled
motion was later withdrawn. Motion then made by girth, seconded by Christensen and carri
without dissent on roll call, that Ordinance No. 429 be not passed.
Ordinance No. 430, declaring an emergency and providing for an expenditure of $1201
for reroofing the city hall was brought up and read; motion made by O'Herin, seconded by
Christensen and carried, that ordinance be declared to have had its third reading.
Motion made by Christensen, seconded by O'Herin and carried, that Section II be
made to read "interest at a rate not to exceed six (6) per cent per annum".
Motion made by O'Herin, seconded by Christensen and carried without dissent on roll
call, that Ordinance No. 430 be finally adopted.
In the m tter of a zoning ordinance, Messrs. Haylett and O'Herin agreed to bring
in an ordinance shortly.
BIDS ON REROOFING CETY HALL were opened from the following:
White River Lbr. Co., ;$1014.02 bid, accompanied by check for $50.70.
Martin Roofing Co., ',Valla Walla, made two separate bids, totals of which were $1639. for
one pro posi ti onandd$1343. for a second; bid was occompanied by check for $93.00
McMundo Roofing Co. and Kleeb Lbr. Co., submitted several bids ranging from$1020. up to
1370., depending upon kinds of material to be used; bid accompanied by check for ?73.50.
Mr. Robbins stated that tf ridges were to beof copper, their bid would be increased by
$90.00, while work on gutters would cost about.,y25.00 additional.
Motion made by Christensen, secDnded by'.7irth and c_•rried, that action on the
contract be deferred until the council had had a chance to study the bids.
The matter of alley beywen Lewis and Clark Ste., running from 4th to 3rd, was
discussed, as it was pointed out that if alley was graded, the new buildings on Lewis St.
would be below the grade, as there is about a 3 ft. fall between 4th ,nd 3rd. Mayor
Hicks them appointed Haylett and Wirth on a committee wick to work with Mr. Burns in getti$
the alley matter straightened out.
Wirth brought up matter of weeds on parking strips but no formel action taken.
ADJOURNhIENT: Motion made by O'Herin, seconded by Christensen end carried, that
council adjourn until 9 PM, November 5th.

Adjourned meeting _ November 5th, 1937.
In the absence of the mayor, Mayor Pro Tem O'Herin called the meeting to
order with following council men present: Burns, Haylett, O'Herin and Wirth; absence
Christensen, LeRoux and Partch.
BIDS OF REROOFING CITY HALL: Motion made by Haylett, seconded by Wirth and
carrEed, that the count it go into executive session for the purpose of discussing the
bids for reroofing the city hall.
COUNCIL MOVED INTO CLERK'S OFFICE FOR THEIR DIOCUSSION.
Motion made by Haylett, seconded by Wirth and carried without dissent on roll
call, that the bid of the White River Lumber Co. be accepted as the best bid, upon
return of council members to the council chambers.
Motion then made by Haylett, s;ecoiaded by Wirth, that the City Attorney be
instructed to draw up a contract with the 'White River Lumber Co., to be executed by
the mayor and city clerk; motion carried.
Matter of material for ridges discussed but no formal action taken.
Matter of proposed drive-in grocery of Francis Jones at 9th & lewis brought up
by Haylett, but no action taken except to call it to the attention of Burne.
The construction of the service station at 2nd & Lewis St. was also called to
Barns' attention, as structure is of wood, contrary to the building code.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion made by Haylett, seconded by O'Herin and carried, that
meeting adjourn.
