ROLL CALL: City council met in regular session with following members present and Mayor McG ee presiding: Burns, Haylett, O'Herin, Partch ��a��nd vlirth; absentees were Anderson & Skinnell. MINUTES OF REGULAR SESSION HELD AUG.-% were read and approved. CLAIMS: Following claims were read and motion was made b� Partch, seconded by Wirth,.. that the bills be allowed and warrants be drawn for the same; roll call showed all voting for the motion: CURRENT EXPENSE: 9977 P. P. & L. Co., city lights _, _ 260.34 9978 Gertrude Speier, stamps for clerk's office _ _ 3.00 263.34 WATER FUND: 1829 P. P. & L. Co., power for pumps _ _ _ _ 649.04 License application read from W. D. Pence, for hotel, soft drinks and restaurant; motion made by Partch, seconded by Haylett that the license b granted and carried unanimansly. PROPOSED AGREEKE,NT VIITH PACIFIC TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH CO. covering installation of a. switch in connection with .fire alarm siren was referred tot the city attorney upon :notion made by Burns and seconded by Haylett. Burns reported that the concrete building opposite the N.P.Freight depot, he thought, could be bone ht for about "500.00 in cash, but no action was taken. BIDS ON CML: Bids on coal were received fammthe following firms but motion was made by Wirth, seconded. by O'Herin, that all bids be rejected, as price was deemed high; motion carried without dissent: Firms and prices were as follows: Juvenal Ice & Fuel Co., big lump •,8.98, small lump "8.71, etc. White River Lumber Co., big lump 9.05 and small lump 9.90 Tum_A_Lum Lbr. Co., big lumps 9.10 and small lump 8.95 Conlen Bros., big lump 9.40 and small lump 9.25. Motion made by Wirth, seconded by Partch, that the Purchasing Agent be authorized to buy a. car of coal at the beNt possible price; carried unanimously. UNEMPLOYED AND PROPOSED BOND ISSUE:Mr. O'Brien brought up matter of work to be furnished to unemployed citizens this winter, suggesting that a bond issue might be floated to raise the funds necessary, as the money going to unemployed would 8.11. bu spent locally; he read some communications from Gov. Hartley in which the latter advised that he had asl�:ed the federal government .for 35 million dollars for relief purposes.O'Brien Ruxwas of the opinion, however, that 611ashington would not be given relief in view of Pennsylvania having been recently turned down and suggested that the council proceed with relief program anyway. City Clerk had statement showing credit of city ready and according to this statement, the council could on its own credit, issue �r74,400. of bonds for general purposes. Wirth suggested that additional taps might be put in parking strips, thereby facilitating, watering of trees; Burns suggested swimming pool as means of putting men to work, while work at swimming beach was also mentioned, as it was thought that improving roads with gravel would not result in many men being employed. O'ilerin was in favor of.any work which could be done by manual labor, rather than by machine. Mayor McGee asked the council to study the matter carefully and be prepared to offer concrete suggestions at the next meeting. Jim Seracca.s had asked 'dayor ;:IcGee to have water put into his shack near the NP stock yards and this matter was brought up and Jiscussed; motion was made by O'Herin, sedonded by Mirth, that the matter be referred to the ?",ater Committee with power to act; motion carried.
