Co., Heater and material --13-:20 ". 71-1084 Empire Electric Co., Thawi_E and material 686.04 GARBAGE COLLECTIONS: Communication read from E. F. Werne.tt and 17. U. Dodd ask- ing for the privilege of collection garbage, stating they would collect it from restaurants, hotels and business houses without charge, but if the city `vanted it collected from residences, they woula do so for :;30.00 per month. Motion made by IIcGee, seconded by Anderson, 'hat the matter be -referred to the Street & Alley Committee for investigation and report at the next m. eting; roll call showed all voting in favor. TAXI PARKING AT DEPOT: A request was read from Joe Sheley aryl. Pasco Taxi Co., asking for parking spaces parallel with the curb at ale depot; was refer red to Street & Alley Committee upon motion made by Partch and seconded by Anderson and all voting for the motion. Letter from Chief Idantor, of Seattle Fire Dept. to IrIr. Taylor was read, this letter inviting the chief of the $re department to Seattle Ivlarch, 12th, 13th & 14th, 'for attendance at a school df fine fighting; motion i~ade by Anderson, seconded by McGee, that the communication be= referred to the Light, Fire &: Water Committee with power to act as they saw fit; roll call showed all voting in favor of the motion. Deatherage Insurance Co., siwmitted an insurance policy for insuring members of the Fire Dept., and this was referred to 'the Fire Committee for- investigation upon motion made by I�ICGe e, seconded by Part ch . "NO CHIEF OF FIRE DEPT.". Anderson brought up the question as to kh.ether the city had a chief of the fire department, calling attention to the fact that the ordinance provided that a chief tims to be appointed by the mayor whoa %eras to serve the time of the mayor's term of office. GASOLIIiE, & OIL COItTRA6T: Mr. Cotton of the Union Oil Co. appeared before the council relative to contract awarded to the Shell Oil Co. at the last meeting, the mayor informing the council that he had informed idr. Cotton previous to that meting that he :yid not think it was necessary for him to appear when his bid was being consid eyed. 1V1r. Cotton stated that he could have explained the maximum and minimum figures shown in thei r contract. Motion ,� de by McGee, seconded by Anderson, tYat the matter be laid over until the next meeting; roll call showed all voting for the motion. After further discussion, motion was made by McGee, seconded by Anderson, that they reconsider the previous motion and roll call showed all voting for the same. Upon request of the agent of the Shell Oil Co., City Attorney O'Brien ruled, that the city council could rescind the action taken at the previous meeting tactJa= letting the contract for gasoline, as the contract had not yet been delivered or purchases been made. REORGANIZATION: V. L. Pangle spoke to the courllcil about a meeting held by the mannbers of the volunteer fire department with the Fire Committee and stated that outside of a fet/extrra suits, all they wanted from the council was co-operation. L. Harmon, Harry Wellman, Jim Knowlton, Marren IrIcFadden, H. D . Bodinger and Grant Elli son, vri t7g two extra members, Normn IrIcFadden and E141. Crossing : Question was brought up relative to swit ch engines blocl�ing Levri s St. crossing when fire apparatus was approach- ing and motion was made by McGee, seconded by Anderson, that city clerk be instruetod to write Superintendent Newton regarding the matter. Motion carred, on roll call. H. M. TAYLOR WAS APPOINTED AS CHIEF OF THE FIRE DEPARTI.IINT BY Mayor Gray; McGee moved, seconded by Anderson, that the matter of confirns.tion be postponed two weeks and roll call showed all voting 2)r the motion. Motion then ma de by Partch, seconded by IIcGee, that t he firemen listed above be recognized as members of the fire d ep rtment and roll call sho wed all voting for the motion. ORDINANCE -##384, proposed contract with P. P. & L. Co., was discussed, Partch stating that the P. P. & L. Co. had practically agreed to changes proposed by the ooun.ci 1. Motion made by McGee, sec aiddd by Anderson, that the ordinance be referred to the City Attorney to see if it is OK for passage. Bill of Pasco Hardware Co., ;122.25, vLich had been referred to the Fire Com, 2�'c. for iilveestigation was reported on by Partch who stated that bill had been revised to y017.25 • council however, was Y � apparently in favor of paying only the difference between F2T,4 Regular Session _ Feb. 18th, 1930 wholesale prices and the salvage value of axes covered by the bill. These . axes had been secured by some unknowm parties at the time of the Fourth St. .fire. McGee moved, seconded by Anderson, that the matter of a fence around the lavm at the City Hall be referred to the Public Property Commit tee ; roll call showed all voting in fav or of the m o t i. on . The Wat er Committee was given authority to pur chase a pipe jack upon motion made by XcGee, seconded by Andsxd;en and all concurring. POLICE' CAR : i;Ioti on was duly made by I:IcGee, ;beconded by Anderson, that the city clerk be instructed to advertise fora fully equipped touring car to cost not more than $650.00, bids to be opened March 4th; roll call showed all voting fCr the motion.
