HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-21-1930 MinutesROLL CALL: City council met in regular session ivi th Mayor Gray presiding and following members present: Councilmen Anderson, Davis, McGee, Meyer, Partch and Wirth ; absent Sargent. MINUTES OF 'REGULAR SESSION January *7th and ad jourre d session on Hanizary 14th were read and approved. CIA :C'VIS AGAINST CURREI1IT EXH,N SE : Partch informed the council that the Light Committee had had a meeting with Mr. Iioss of the Tvioss Construction Co. that afternoon and as a result, his bill for extras was reduced to 5201.54; the larger light globes would b'e used until necessary to replace them when smaller ones would be put in and Mr. Moss would take over. the extra cable and tqe city vuould retain the extra pole for futa re 'emergency and- the light committee recommended that the revised bill be paid. WARRANT : 8201 Pac. T. & T. Co.,. current and private line mileage for fire alarm for year. 1930 _ 22.20 8203 H. C. Ilo ss Cons tr ucti on Co., extra material for light poles (post, globes, etc.) 201.54 Motion rmde by McGee, :seconded by Anderson that the above wills be allowed and roll call shaved following: Ayes, Anderson, T;IeGee, 11Ieyer, Partch and Wirth; Noes, Davis. Claim ofEmpire Electric Co.., amount y'52.63 for installing clock for auto- matically turning lights off and on, had been referred to the Light Committee; latter recommended t1 -at it be paid and motion was male by Partch, seconded ray McGee, that the bill be' alloyed and warrant be drawn for the same; roll call slioued all voting for the motion. WARRANT No. 8202 issued. Reports of City Clerk and City Treasurer were passed around. PMTIOIt i"OR LIGHTS: Rela ti ve to the petition of R. E. Norton, et al, for a light to be placed at 9th and "A" Streets, Partch recommended that a 75 watt lamp be placed at that point; he also recommended that the 300 watt light on the railroad crossing at Levi s Street be discontinued, as this light vias no longer needed since neer lights had been placed in operation. Motion covering these tvdo items was made by Partch,' seconded by (firth and roll call shaared all voting in favor of the motion. VA19ANCIES ON LIBRARY w PARK BOARDS: • Clerk cal led attention to fact that Mrs. C 'arl Bird's term as trustee on Library Board expired Dec. 31st-, � also that there was a vanancy on the Park Board, as M. E. Devereau's place had nearer been filled and his term would have expired Dec. 31st also. Meyor stated would take matter under advisement until next meeting.* MECHANIC TO HANDLE FIRE EQUIFTIFUT: Partch advised the council that he thought he could ge t Demps But ler t o act as me chani c. in repairin g ei ty f ire truck and other cars at 9100.00 and rec-mvmended that this be done. � After discussion, Partch was informally authorized by council to. secure Butler, who was to primarily see that all fire equipment was- in fLrst class .shape and "also keep othe°r city cars -in repair; his time visas to be allocated to departmEn.ts on basis of work he' did for various depart- ments; ' he das to be furnished --sleeping quarters at the city •hall, so that he would be instantly available in case of fire to handle the truck, etc. .1 fire Water Manager McFarland reported that only one hydrant hhad been found, to be actually frozen up ti gh t, this being one in Sylvc s to r Addition; 2 other hydrants were found to have frost in the top chamber m -eventing the nut from operating easily but the application of a blow torch opened them up readily. PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL THAs",PING EQUIFEt ENT : After discussion by the, council, motion was made by 111cGee, seconded by 'ffirth, that McFarland and Part'& bd authorized to investigate and buy a small portable steaxtl boiler zi•th equipmffat for thawing out frozen mains and services of Water Dept. Upon roll call., all voted in favor. Motion then made by Partch, seconded by Wirth, that McFarland be authorized to purchase hydrant thawing equipment r -Lich he recommended, weighing about 35 lbs., and v&ich was to be carried on fire truck for future emergencies; roll call Ghmved all voting in favor of the motion. -AD JOUT.ENT: Motion made by Anderson, seconded by Part ch,that `meeting adjourn; and carried. /1, A TTE ST : May or C e r_ Passed and approved the 4th day of February, 1930.
